neb: Slightly over-the-top tracking of overseas shipments. People complain about the lack of tracking with NZ Post, but compare that with: Your parcel has boarded the plane. Your parcel is enjoying pre-dinner drinks. Your parcel had the chicken for dinner. Your parcel is watching a Chinese foreign-language drama. Your parcel rated the film four out of five. Your parcel has now fallen asleep.

NZ post tracking has nothing on Aramex tracking:

We've got your parcel.

We think we've lost your parcel.

We've definitely lost your parcel.

The fact that changing the address for car ownership is so ridiculously difficult in 2022.

It should be a simple online process - but if the vehicles are owned by a company it is a royal PITA.

really?

That is not simple. I can see why that might be necessary if your fleet is 500 but ours is 2. Many small businesses would have one.

You do not even need that much information when you register a new car in the company name.

MurrayM:Waking up in the middle of the night to hear a smoke detector somewhere in the house chirping every few minutes to let you know that its battery is running low, then when you get up in the morning and go looking for the offending detector its decided that the battery isn't low after all and has stopped chirping.

Until tonight!

Mains powered detectors usually still have battery backup.

USPS. So long as it turns up by 8 Dec as it's the last piece of my outfit for our end-of-year party!

Ah, you should be reasonably safe there, eventually it'll exit the black hole.

Indeed it did! USPS still says it's on its way and NZ Post has no record of the tracking number, but it appeared in the letterbox.

That's why you replace them once a year whether they need it or not, and you can take your bath at the same time.

But only when daylight saving time changes. Otherwise you wait another year for the bath.

Or you have two baths at 2am on the same day.

shk292:That seems very wasteful; in my experience, good quality batteries last at least five years in smoke alarms

Better than risking wasting a house!

The smoke alarm won't save your house. But it might save you.

Rikkitic:

Glass mayonnaise jars always have a tapered shape, making the neck narrower than the rest. This means you have to fidget with the knife to work mayonnaise out from the edges as it gets used up. It is difficult and irritating to get all of it and it gets all over the fingers and some always remains behind.

Why has not one single manufacturer of mayonnaise glass jars discovered how much better the plastic ones are in this respect?

Every scrap of mayonnaise you can't reach is a bonus sale for them... i.e. they sell more mayonnaise this way.

Ugh, reminds me of sending a care package to South Africa. It got all the way to the local post office in Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein who recorded it as being put back on the delivery truck. Since it wasn't on there it'd then be marked as lost and sit unclaimed in the post office for awhile until the employees helped themselves to it. Somehow NZ post managed to track all this down and it was suddenly rediscovered and delivered to the recipients.

Gravity, and the pernicious way it assists things in falling, spilling, or toppling over.
