aucklander:

- the stupid - stupid idea of having one lane split into two lanes at a traffic light with both lanes going through the intersection then getting back to one lane. If there is ANY logical explanation to that I am really keen to hear it. But I do not believe there is any.

It's quite simple really. The light turns green for ~15secs, You can get twice as many cars through the intersection in the same amount of time as you could if there was only 1 lane at the lights. When people take off from lights a gap opens up, which is large enough for the two lanes to merge once they've gone through the lights.

Trust me, if there was only 1 lane through the lights, your journey would take more time than if there were 2 lanes merging back to 1 lane.

and if people knew how to merge in NZ it would be a lot smoother, the number of people who brake and then indicate to merge is mind blowing

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Not only to merge. They slow down or stop, then indicate to park, change lanes, go down a side street.

Those drivers are tools.

Believe it or not, merging is much, much worse in UK.  It's common practice in the lights scenario for one lane to be "the chosen one" and if you have the temerity to use the other one in an effort to "jump the queue" (aka use both lanes to get the max number of cars across the intersection), other drivers will run you off the road rather than let you merge.  Similarly, on motorways if there is a lane closed ahead, most drivers will use the left lane exclusively at the first hint of traffic slowing down - if you're rude enough to use the other lane and attempt to merge where the lane closes (and where the signs say "merge in turn"), you take your life in your hands

NZ drivers by comparison are generally well behaved when merging

Ah, I see yer problem there: Run Firefox for a couple of hours and all that nasty free memory will be leaked away before you even know it.

That'll be $125 plus $50 for the after-hours callout.

Turning on PlayStation for the first time in awhile to play Gran Turismo. Only most of the challenge races are set at twilight or night. And the PlayStation and TV is in our lounge, which is bright and sunny. So turn it off back off again.
It seems lots of TV and movies are the same. House of Dragon we had to wait until it was actually dark outside to watch the stupid show.

No, and I don't understand the significance of the question.

Yeah, that's because you're using it in a terrible environment. It's like complaining that you cant hear the dialog when you have a jackhammer going outside and do nothing to stop the noise getting in.

Ah maybe. But the day races are fine, I don't need the 'added realism' of twilight or night races.
Just let me race during the day 😭 virtually and digitally 😂

Suburb on the North Shore where this happens all year round, seems to average around once a fortnight, usually around 11pm to midnight.

And then there's the property that blasts loud Indian music at around 3am for 5-10 seconds each time.

Any and all possible explanations welcome.

The other one is where you need to turn on subtitles because you can't understand any of the dialogue because it's drowned out by background noises or muffled in a helmet or something.

It's done that way to make it "realistic", because the last thing you want in a show that features green-skinned telepathic aliens that fly around in CGI spaceships zapping humans with particle beams that make loud noises in a vacuum is for it to appear unrealistic.
