And yet, against all the comments above, I am using Edge and it performs extremely well. It's based on the same Chromium base as Google Chrome, so not sure why bother installing Chrome.

You are an expert in this kind of thing. The lady I am helping is just a very basic user with no technical insight. She doesn't need or understand the Edge features. She can't seem to get Gmail to work with it and it doesn't remember her web site logins. I'm sure there are simple settings to fix all this but I don't know how Edge works either and both of us are comfortable with Chrome, so why bother reinventing the wheel?

The needs of the user are the most important thing.

That is why I will supply Windows/Linux/OSX machines for different people at work.

I use what I like most and are most proficient in, so why they should not do the same.

I'm a banker. I have been in and about the banking industry at an institutional level for over 25 years. I'm not evil. Neither are many of my colleagues.

No, you are not either. You are just working for Ebenezer Scrooge. ;-)

People who don't know the difference between advice and advise.

Clots who mix up their theres.

Increasing amount of muppets lately, that stop at the lights way back from the sensors in the road so the lights can't detect them. They then sit there, grimly holding the steering wheel looking perplexed as they keep missing cycles of the lights and people start honking at them. This seems to have become a bloody epidemic in Auckland this year...

Rant over for now...

An experience best summed up by quoting Father Neb, "you can't grow anything in this place without it being attacked by slugs, possums, rats, birds, ...". Currently I can't even get to kill the possums because the rats are eating the bait out of the traps before the possums can get to them (the possum traps are surrounded by three rait bait stations but it's not killing them fast enough), and then airdropped reinforcements land to attack the fruit trees.

I think it's important to distinguish individuals from organisations, it's quite possible to have good people working at a scummy organisation. Take for example big pharma, they have lots of very dedicated people working there who really want to make a difference and help humankind, but the companies as a whole are about as close to evil as you can get, summed up by a tongue-in-cheek comment by a friend who used to work for one on the waste that went on there, "we'll just raise prices by a thousand percent, it's not as if people can afford to stop paying for their cancer treatments". In the specific case of banks, they're really not doing themselves any favours in the way they operate: They take people's money but provide so-so through to just bad service (for ****'s sake if you've got a semi-permanent queue in your branch with a solid half-hour wait time put a second teller on, it's not going to eat into your billion-dollar profits that much), and they ship staggering profits overseas. You can forgive people for not liking the institutions much even if they have very fine people on both sides of the counter.

This is what I wanted to say so thanks for saving me the trouble.

Towns that lose their last bank branch are not only inconveniencing a few old people who can't keep up with the times. Apart from the fact that old people will soon make up the majority, there is the issue of simple courtesy and customer service. If you are making money from my money, why the hell shouldn't you provide a physical presence in my community if that is that what I and other customers want? Banks have a real way of getting everything how they want it. Why should they?

How about this idea? The big banks pool a tiny portion of their excessive profits to jointly fund a single community bank that serves all their abandoned small town customers? How hard would that be? Of course it would require some sense of community service, so is unlikely ever to happen.

It's a good idea, so good that a trial has already been completed.

But yep, banks eh? Even if you do have a branch in your area, a lot of them won't do niche things like take a cash deposit anymore.

Even in the big city I have to drive for 15 minutes to go to a particular branch to deposit cash.

When Christmas in the Park is played on TV with no Christmas songs. This after my daughter spent 14 hours there on Friday for rehearsal in the rain then another six hours on Saturday in thunderstorms with her dance crew being back up dances for two songs. One a Christmas song which was fantastic but did not get played on TV and one they did not have music rights to so was unable to be played. Pops loved sitting there for an hour waiting to see it on TV, not.

I subscribe to the NZ Herald. I do get a discounted rate (it's not worth the full price).

Recently they split a section off and want to charge more for that (Viva).

Yes, it is a nice cheap new car.

Now:

Would you like wheels on it?

How about seats? Airbags? etc etc

Now, let me see what your new total is!

Kind of odd that they stuck the Opunake hub in the local library when TSB actually does still have a physical branch in Opunake and they were one of the participating banks
