Nope. More guns = more gun deaths. The two go together.

I‘d say: More idiots with guns = more gun deaths.

We have to pass several aptitude tests before having a gun which is not the case in the US. Incidentally, the vast majority of homicides in GER are committed with illegal weapons. These are not at all detectable by law. You can keep 100 legal guns in your closet, but outside there are murders with illegally sourced guns. Then what's the use of putting the 100 legal weapons in a double vault or scrap them?

Keep going with the NRA talking points. They are garbage.

In the US the problem lays between the ears of the people as well. It’s the mindset - no gun can fire by itself.

BTW: In Berlin they used fireworks (pyro) everybody can buy freely at any supermarket and they hacked / modified it.

I will counter that by saying no one without a gun in the history of the planet has shot anyone else with a firearm.

The issue (world wide) is that anarchists are growing in number (We call them Voices for Freedom here in NZ), giving them access to firearms will only make things MUCH worse.

And given how often fireworks go off around our property each year as people hoard them for birthdays and other celebrations I am all for banning fireworks too.

I am not a member of any gun lobby. Just a responsible hunter using his brain and no mainstream drivel. The NRA comparison is something as if I’d recommend you to join the Ku Klux Clan.

That's factually true, but most of all murders are actually committed with kitchen knives, poison, and other niceties. What use is that to the one who was murdered? It's still the tool. No politician can build nuclear missiles, drive tanks or fire cannons. Those are facts, but they don't change the minds of those willing to kill. I'm pretty sure that after ALL weapons are abolished on this earth, man will continue to find ways to send others to the afterlife.

But this was not the subject of my initial posting.

Those illegal guns in NZ are largely stolen from registered gun owners. Take away the source and the supply goes away.

Official Information Act figures released by Police show that the number of guns reported stolen or lost between January 1, 2015, and August 21, 2021, was: 5370 stolen and 168 lost – a total of 5538. Only 1698 of the stolen weapons had a recorded serial number of some type.

Feel free to explain how someone who has passed "several aptitude tests before having a gun" can lose a gun. Either is locked away or its in your control. A lost gun shows a very high degree of incompetence .

Can we take the discussion on guns out of this thread?

Las Vegas shooting he fired more than 1,000 bullets killing 60 people and wounding at least 413.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Las_Vegas_shooting

That would have been impossible with a knife.

And in the USA even the police are homicidal maniacs, killing over 1000 people annually, per head of population you are 16 times more likely to be killed by police in the USA than in NZ.

The USA has 46% of the worlds privately owned guns

The USA has 25% of the worlds prison population

The USA has 239 LEO per 100k, NZ 197

The USA also has a far more punitive justice system.

If these things actually worked, you would think after 200+ years the facts would show it worked. It has FAILED.

At what point do you say sod this, lets try something different

Last posting and to end this OT-discussion:

In 1933 we had an unarmed idiot at the start who, without a knife or a gun in his hand, murdered 6 million people - just through mindset. Together with Stalin there are 14 million. Our idiot was also a vegetarian. Are they now suspicious? (Of course not! But I have to add that today).

Not sure it's a breach (no mention of unmentionables) but it does belong in Politics.

With your constant recommendations, I almost have to commit hara-kiri - and there is not even any hidden or malicious intention behind my postings. I am an observer and what I observe is not good. If it's customary for you to shoot the message carrier instead of the sender of the message, then of course I'm in great danger.

Nah, I've never violated any FUGs or been banned in 30 years and if I did I would start to think about how the world around me is becoming more and more radicalized in a subtle new way. On the other hand, I never had to change my democratic, humanistic principles and I wouldn't want to be there - neither real nor virtual nor as an avatar. 🙂

Wikipedia: „In March 2022, Godwin wrote "you're not going to believe who this guy reminds me of" about Vladimir Putin, actually using his own rule.“

Oups!
