I know people are more looking to vent here than find a solution but, I do have several chainsaws Mike...
I swear our doors are getting narrower.

No thank you, I don't conduct business by phone.
That's an annoyance of mine: Websites that demand a phone number. I'm using the Internet over fibre, which has nothing to do with a legacy phone connection. Why should I have a phone number? Well, fine, they can have it but I don't know what they expect to use it for, because I block calls from unknown numbers (and naturally the form that demands it doesn't list their number...)

I always give the number for a large organisation with a switchboard that you can never get through (I'm sure you can all think of several). Never had any problems, and quite possibly avoided a lot of junk calls.
When noel leeming insisted on a phone number to order from them I gave them their own number. They emailed me asking for a correct number so they could discuss the order and I said to just email me about it and nothing happened and then the stuff arrived so no idea what they wanted to talk about.

They probably wanted to scam you with an 'extended warranty'.

Probably. I bought something from them many ages ago. Go to pay. Extended Warranty No? And that got into a protracted argument. Not my problem if your pay package has a decent screw the customer to get a commission component.

Stepson and his partner bought a refrigerator from them and got the extended warranty.
I went back with them an hour later and said they did not need an extended warranty.
Got the usual spiel about extra 2 years warranty...blah blah blah
pointed out that the consumer guarantees act covers for longer than that for free, and did you explain their rights under the CGA to them ?
No ?, well that is also illegal.
30 seconds later got their money back.
Just love it too when I ask for our work place available discount with them, you quickly get shunted off to a junior sales droid because of commission reductions.
Also did it with a car he wanted to buy
ended up saying NO to the "warranty " which does not pay out for most things, they are worthless.
Also said they no he was NOT wanting to pay it off over 5 years, lets bring it back to 2
And no to all the other "add ons" they wanted.
They got grumpy saying the had already done the paperwork with all the junk added in.
Tough, redo it.
I have had mall security stand close to me as I discussed the merits of EB-Games meeting their obligations under the CGA and it was NOT up to us to send the xbox to Microsoft , nor did we have to pay an up front fee. I was exceptionally polite, but exceptionally insistent that the problem was 100% theirs. Ended up having to see the manager the next day and went through the same spiel , they claimed I had abused their staff and that they had lots of complaints from the public about me...called BS on that (if I was the security would have interrupted) and pointed out the manager should ensure their staff we properly trained about their obligations under the CGA and that what they staff were telling me was in breach of both the CGA and the fair trade act.
Heard later from someone else who knew one of the sales droids they told their manager I was a lawyer...ROTFLMAO... no, just a consumer who knows their rights.
I let all my calls go to voicemail. Also filters out the Indian scammers. If it's actually someone I want to talk to, I ring them back.

Handle9: The crappy term sales droids.
Those who treat me correctly are sale representatives. For those who don't I prefer the term 'sales monkey'.
