Rikkitic:

That the media get so excited about the discovery of earth-size exoplanets. We have one right here in our own solar system. It is called Venus. Who would want to live there?

The media is only excited to sell adverts.

Scientists are excited because it’s science. It can also lead to lead to future discoveries on earth, just as helium was discovered in the sun years before it was discovered on earth.

Enough of science. Back to the deeply meaningful tribulations of the impoverished Windsors.

We need all the spares we can find for when we've finished wrecking this one.

Well no, but yeah, I get the sentiment

Grrr. Seems like COVID has not spurred enough digital innovation. I'm trying to find out how to make additional payments on my home loan & this is the response I get:

"You have ring our lending team on 0800 *** *** or pop into the nearest branch where one of the personal banking can arrange this for you to make an extra payment."

This was using the sanctioned banking comms channel, not email.

My favourite local online bike parts/accessories site relocating all NZ operations to its AU counterpart - but don't worry - you'll have access to an even bigger range of products! With the exception of all of the products that have import embargoes on them due to distribution agreements - in other words; most things.

Oh, and did I mention that the old $5 local deliver fees are now anywhere from $30-100? If you can get the items you want.

Needing to use a multimeter relatively urgently, to find it had a battery inside (who knew!) that probably should have been replaced a long time ago. How I knew? Smell plus battery acid everywhere!

I've got the opposite problem, if you can call it a problem, an old Dick Smith-branded meter from God knows where (well, apart from a Dick Smith store, I don't know how I acquired it) which is at least 15 years old that's still going strong despite never having had the battery changed. God knows what sort of battery is in that thing.

Find out, take it out and replace it. I just lost my perfectly good MM due to a battery pretty much exploding inside it.

Weeelll... it's a crappy old Dick Smith meter, if something were to happen to it like the battery leaking then I'd be forced to replace it with a BM235 or something.

If it is an analogue meter, there is a good chance it doesn't have a battery.

it's digital, and since it measures resistance and continuity among other things it definitely has a battery.

Edited to add: When I say "crappy old meter" it's actually reasonably decent and perfectly fine as a knock-around meter for quick checks on things once you replace the leads with better ones, it's just not a more professional-grade device.

freitasm: Can you turn it on?

Nope, that‘s the problem. When powered up, it wants an additional push to the power button.
