Any Archimedes machines in that lot, by any chance?

Actually, yes.

Neat! Although this leads to further questions such as What do you have? How much do you want for it? Where is it? and Are you prepared to courier it?

Nothing fancy but they work well enough for most use cases. Three are branded Dick Smith. Three are Uni-T (?). The rest I am keeping. If you want them come and collect or send a courier bag.

Uni-T do decent stuff once you move past the entry level cheapies, do you have a model number?

Same with online stores that pop-up messages like 'Dorothy from Twizel has just bought some haemorrhoid cream".

I was recently in the market for an e-scooter and any site with those pop-ups got ruled out straight away.

Those are either lying to people, or a gross violation or privacy and if theyre real and disclosing that sort of info someone needs to come down on places that do it.

Some may be real (if an actual shop) but I once looked at the code behind a spam page (one of those "This product is flying out of shelves before being banned in New Zealand" kind of crappy Taboola ads that appear on Stuff/NZ Herald)... Basically they had a hardcoded list of 10 - 15 names/locations and just showed the list items every five seconds.

@Rikkitic

Any old monitors running on the BBC era machines? I'm after a monitor for my acorn electron after my parents gave the monitor away in 1992

I have at least four or five BBC computers. At least one is an Archimedes. BBC doesn't seem to put any kind of identifying information whatsoever on the case, just 'Acorn'. I have never played with these machines and know nothing whatsoever about them. Here is a photo I just took of the Archimedes:

The others are all of the integrated keyboard type and they may just be regular Acorns. I don't know how to distinguish them.

If you want this and whatever goes with it (bits and pieces, lots of software on floppies, manuals, etc.) you can have it for the price of being a Geekzone contributor whose posts sometimes amuse and entertain me. You must come and fetch it or send someone in your place. I am not prepared to ship under any circumstances. Ideally you should set some time aside to go over all the bits and pieces with me. Understand that I can offer no guarantee that any of this actually works. Location is rural Hastings.

I also have a couple of the Acorn monitors. At least one works.

That pic is of a Risc PC rather than an Archimedes :)

The little "tab" just below and to the left of the Acorn logo should pull out, making a door over the front of the drives. The model number (I'm guessing 610) will be printed on that.

With that said... I don't require a Risc PC (I guess technically I don't "require" any of this!) and Hastings is a bit of a drive, so I'd better pass. Thanks for the offer though.

Damn! You are 100% right.

Thanks for the info.

I'm still convinced there is an Archimedes here somewhere. I'm in the process of clearing some stuff out and will let you know if I find one.

Sorry I got your hopes up for no reason.

Edit: How do I identify these different models? Do they all have the same front cover? How can I see if something actually is an Archimedes?

Hey I have at least one of those too....along with something like 300 other machines...of various 70s/80s vintage

Some are things like an 8085 development board, trendy pocket computer etc...

Curious as to what you have...although I am on a promise that if I clear out a suitably large portion of my computers (and books) then I can buy a mill and make model stationary steam engines. I have the lathe.

I am also curious as to what I have. You are welcome to add to your collection if you wish. Maybe you can use the lathe to make some interesting metal sculptures.

All Risc PCs have that "curved" style of front cover. Early Archimedes machines have a blue Archimedes logo on the front. Later ones vary a bit; the A3000 series has an integrated keyboard (the A3010 has green keys!) but the A4000 and A5000 do not.

I've never really understood the naming. The Acorn name was dropped altogether for the BBC Micro series it seems, but was used for both earlier and later models.

Do any look like this?
