That wee server is almost as cute as a puppy or a kitten!

I've been a WHS user for some time now, I re-purposed my P4 (XP) to run WHS1 and bought a new Q6600 system to run Vista for my desktop. In my defence Win7 wasnt out then.
When Win8 came out I figured it was time to upgrade again, and my P4 system was starting to play up anyway. So I repurposed my Q6600 to run WHS2011 and setup Win8 on a new Shuttle XPC with Core i7. Both systems are running pretty sweet at the moment, but I realise now I have been short-sighted. There is no way my Shuttle can be my next server, it doesnt have enough drive bays!
Also, I think the constant whine from the WHS2011 box with 4 HDD's is giving me tinnitus.
While I like all the features of the Gen8, I think iLO would be the most use to me, as my server and my desktop share resources via a KVM, which is fine except for all the fat cables at my feet, and recently one of the video connections stopped working so I have a second monitor connected to the server now which kind of defeats the purpose of the whole setup really.
The lovely CoffeeBaron is installing Cat6 cabling in my house so I could do with another switch too.

I need to upgrade my media server, which is currently a WD DX4000. The Atom CPU is just a tad slow, and it mazes out at 4GB of RAM, which is simply not enough as you load up the file system.
I'm looking forward to putting the Gen8 through its paces.

Main attraction for me would be the low power usage and enterprise features, e.g. iLO out of the box. Compared with building your own whitebox solution.

Simply an awesome unit - and stylish to boot!
My wife's home business could use one or two of these!

The biggest feature I find appealing is the inclusion of HP iLO4.  I don't believe I've seen a iLO (or insert your other manufacturers acronym here) on a SOHO unit before.
HP RDX a close second and the low noise level would come third.

I cant wait to see one in the flesh!

Looks good out of the box setup and iLO , Would be great i could setup a proper file server / backup machine , instead of the big bulky one in the closet

I like the good looking things in life.. so due to the design and the colour customization of this snazzy looking server, I will move it from the closet server room to my desk and have it on display to show off to all!

Apart from the impressive stats and features of this little beast, the thing that appeals most to me is just the size of it.  Gone is the "big black box" in the corner with a heap of noisy fans.

How does this affect business?  It can sit on your desk giving you instant physical access! Sure it doesn't NEED to or you can RDP to it, but LOOK at it! Don't you WANT this on your desk?? I know I do!

Struggling to see your point. My server has 1GB ram and serves 6 media clients.

I definitely like the small size as my office/study is pretty small. Thanks for a great comp!

Great form factor and size would be a great bit of added functionality for my SMB.

I am currently running a vastly over powered management server, which consumes a tremendous amount of power (since it is on 24x7). I could drop this guy in its place, probably cut power consumption down by half and use some of the parts from the fileserver to build another workstation. The smaller size (lower weight) means I could mount this box out of the way and also free up more space. I am already running managed switches with link aggregation, but I could use it to rewire some of my more cludgy wiring runs.

Love the size and out of the box setup. USB ports. Be fantastic media server / storage for my video editing work, and home entertainment.

$499 for a machine that has iLO + raid. It's the perfect replacement for our branch office servers. (and my home one)

Warning: reality may differ from above post

I have a customer that wants me to upgrade their accounting system (ERP type) in Feb next year. I would like to try this server as a combined offering with the new accounting system (ERP type). Right now they use an old server running SBS 2003. This looks perfect for my type of customers - SME - mostly single office + 1/2 doz employees. These are business that cannot go to online apps (cloud).

When I am studying up on new database technologies I find it useful to install software at home and try it all out first.  Unfortunately my laptop isn't always up to the challenge so this would be perfect for me to install/learn on.
