Fred99: I missed seeing the part about the warning to stuff to not talk to (Wanaka) neighbours.
Might be that it's warning Stuff not to repeat allegations regarded as defamatory to Wanaka residents while seeking comment but Stuff have neglected to mention that part.

This is completely nuts:
A 20-year-old who posted a video on TikTok saying he crossed the Auckland border because he was craving McDonald’s has been charged by police.
Superintendent Shanan Gray said the charge was laid after a video emerged of people allegedly travelling out of Auckland to get fast food.
The video, which was uploaded to TikTok on Monday, showed at least two people going through a border checkpoint before purchasing a large amount of food from McDonald’s.
lockdown fatigue.
we have seen someone escape quarantine by tying sheets long enough to climb down the wall of their hotel.
it is not easy being in level 4 lockdown.

It sounds like it is a lot harder for those of us who can't afford QCs.

Escape for a Maccas?
I try not to be too judgmental about humanity when I saw the lines outside Maccas when we shifted down from L4, definitely not my thing, but if that makes them happy...
But such a low goal when escaping lockdown, they clearly don't give a toss about risk to other people, but are happy to take that risk of being caught... for a hamburger?
Then make it almost certain they'll be nailed by boasting about the escapade on Tiktok?

"I would be interested to know if this has happened before - if it was a one-time breach or did it happen last year as well? If it was a one-off, then I'd be [contented] with the apology."
I suspect a lot of us would be interested as well.

johny99: Three more Aucklanders (I am an ex one!) found in up on Turoa, Ohakune. What questions are the police on the boarder asking those that are going through it? What’s the point of drafting laws and punishments if they are not harsh enough to make people three times instead of twice. If the fine was the equivalent of two or three years salary or wages, even the wealthiest of folk would think again before breaking the rules.
Understand you guys up there are doing it tough, but Covid is out in your community. It’s not your fault it is but it’s a situation you are in if you like it or not.
I expect the same appetite by the mainstream and social media to find out the names of these three people and who their parents are.
To me, in both cases, the authorities should have assumed that, having come from a ‘red’ zone, they needed to spend two weeks in an MIQ facility. Having to pay for it themselves and having a giant cotton bud shoved up their nose multiple times might bring home the message that they should have stayed home (like the rest of us). Just letting them go home isn’t good enough and an MIQ well away from home would be better. Christchurch in the case of the Wanaka couple, Rotorua in the case of the Turoa threesome.
Note, the stay in MIQ is not a punishment, it is a precaution and as such does not stop any prosecution.

There are plenty of breaches occurring in the lower-income bracketed people as well. Not to mention the Ferns are allowing their Auckland contingent to join them. Not exactly essential (and I am a fan of the Ferns and sport in general).
People just want to be outraged.
