Behodar:It seems that the PS4 stores the "current" OS version in flash somewhere. It refuses to boot 8.52 since it "knows" that 9.03 is newer, and forces an update through safe mode.
Downgrade protection, I would definitely expect that in game consoles...
Handsomedan:
In a similar vein (correct spelling?) - flies. Since the end of the apocalypse, up here in the leafy suburbs or Auckland's North Shore, we are now experiencing more flies (and weirdly, more wasps) than there ever should be.
And they seem to be immune to fly spray - just makes them a little slower.
My aim with my electric bat is terrible and I am starting to develop elbow and wrist pain from the constant attempts at swatting the buggers.
grrr....
Consider yourself fortunate you are not a target for ants.
I hate those things so much!
neb: Being up a ladder about to replace some monitoring gear that sits above an area filled with bushes and weeds and, just before I reach into the holder to pull out the first of the proprietary miniature stainless mounting bolts for which they give you zero spares, thinking "if I drop one of these I'm screwed" (slightly stronger synonym for "screwed" actually used). Seconds later...
An extremely strong magnet, like those used to turn pacemakers on and off, might help. With it, you can find anything ferrometallic in seconds. Do you have one? (a magnet, not a pacemaker) 😉

To be able to attract a stainless steel bolt the magnet is going to have to be something involving liquid helium and a ton of electricity.
Even then, the fact that there's a cast-iron grating in the search area would make things difficult, you've got a tiny practically non-magnetically-attracted item in close proximity to a huge very magnetically-attracted item.

In principle, you're right, but what I've already fished out of hopeless situations in terms of "stainless steel screws" tells me that it should at least be worth a try. Ferritic stainless steel, for example, is magnetic, while austenitic is not. That's why even stainless steel knives stick to the magnetic bar in the kitchen. But it must be a really strong neodymium magnet for your task. I always borrow it from my wife, who has some in the operating room for the pacemakers, to reach the tiny magnetic switching contact through a human body. And a small breakfast board to keep the cast iron grate from flying at you. 😉

Programs that intercept (?) the little box at the top right of a window with an X in it. If I click on the X, that means I want to close it, not be asked if I really want to close it, or some other equally stupid choice.

Surely this should be in the 'smile' thread .....
Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21
Well, maybe, but more makes me think - but the last weekend was only about 2 days ago....
Maybe weekends are just easier to spot

Trademe...and their "suggestions"
I made the mistake of complaining about some women clothing being in the wrong section of trademe, ie shoes are nothing to do with computers.
NOW trademe has decided I am really interested in women clothing.
Then again ALL the algorithms that have "Suggested for you" are wrong 99.99% of the time
Time to go back to using 2 different browsers agin
1 not logged in, cookies deleted every time, etc for when I am just browsing
1 for when I actually want something.
