It's virtue signalling from the supermarkets. Many, many foods contain alcohol. Any food containing vanilla would contain some non-zero amount of alcohol. Even soft drinks may contain traces, and no, I'm not referring specifically to fermented beverages.

Fermented sauces such as soy sauce have a significant amount of alcohol.

Yes, a significant amount - enough that it would count as session-strength in a beer.

Well technically 0% alcohol still contains alcohol, even up to 0.5% still. Now yes, you can get drunk on it or over the limit (been various studies) as the body process it faster then you can drink it, but it does still give you a blood alcohol count. Determining if this is not good for kids or not is not my specialty but I wouldn't want my kids chucking 12 0% beers just cause there is very little alcohol in it.

Some other things contain more alcohol than zero strength beer - for instance soy sauce can have 1.5% abv. Not that you can drink a lot of it.

I think you meant to say "can't" above?

Interestingly have had this discussion before with some parents aghast at minors drinking 0% beer. Others thought it was fine. I'm in the latter. It normalises drinking socially without getting drunk. We should encourage that.

yes cant 👍 but its also the social media we in - kids chucking down a beer bottle vs one chucking down cough syrup or soy sauce will get very much different media attention.

Fully agree, we need to normalise "drinking" without getting drunk, but from a certain age only.

I'm not aware of a volume setting, but my goal is to avoid touching the screen any more than I absolutely have to. So, obnoxiously loud it must be.

The Countdown ones you can touch with an item, the Pak n Save ones require finger contact, however I always touch those with a knuckle so much less chance of picking up anything.

No, its a deliberate policy by the supermarket. Countdown have stated that they require ID for products that look like alcoholic products. So 0% beer, margarita mix, home brew kits. But oddly, not sparkling grape juice in the wine-looking bottles, that seems to have a grandparented clause. Also not tonic, even though the vast majority of tonic water purchased will end up in a G&T or similar...

Gotta protect the kids from that ginger beer. Oh, wait...

Hesitant to dispute as the infringement notice basically states, "If you wish to dispute the infringement notice, you can request a court hearing"...or words to that effect.

It's quite off-putting.

I don't know if you've checked out the location yet but on the AT infringement site you may be able to see what evidence AT have if the warden took photos of the car in situ. You need notice number and reg number. Then you can pay or query the offence. Was there only one yellow dash because there was a driveway?

The spellchecker in Apple products - unless you get it 99% correct then it is clueless however if you copy/paste it into Google then magically it comes back with the correct answer no matter how butchered the spelling is.

Thanks - didn’t see that there was an area on their website to view/pay the fine.
Photos are pretty clear. He’s in the wrong and will be paying the fine. Two broken yellow lines in the “space” in front of his car.
He’ll live and learn, I guess.

Still not sure why it’s marked like a space though…why put the white line marking it as a space then put a yellow line in the soace? Why waste the white paint?

I pivoted away from beer onto 0%s and now I drink bugger all of those too.

If I'm going to have an assload of sugar, nothing hits the spot like a regular cold glass of Coca Cola.

I might drink a 2.25l bottle a year, but I swear I enjoy every glass more than I've ever enjoyed a single beer.

When you do a 111 call to Fire for a backyard stinky fire billowing paper? and lots of smoke over the footpath as you are walking past.

Obviously the person concerned heard the siren heading his way and put it out!

Attending BRT says "nothing found, false alarm - good intent".

Multiple people witnessed it. I was the only one to call!

At least the fire is out!

If you're not already familiar with it, Google 'bystander effect', aka. diffusion of responsibility. If you're in a position where you need to deal with it, make the issue someone's direct responsibility, ie. instead of "Someone call an ambulance" say "You! Call an ambulance".

Funny thing is, the others were on another Street as I walked home, so didn't know I had made the call.

Got hit by a driver running a red light a week ago.  Full footage of crash, other party owning up (Was great) and comprehensive report.

Police-Due to insufficient evidence for prosecution we will file this report, no action will be taken.......Gold!

There is your mistake, expecting NZ police to do anything....perhaps if there was a cup-of-tea involved...

Maybe a lawyer could comment. What you have may not meet the requirements for Police in court.

I'm not fussed, no injury. little damage.  Made me laugh about not even a ticket for running the red though.  Betcha my karma would have got me one!

End of the day, everyone was OK
