We get it all the time here with motocross idiots ripping up and down the beach and surrounding roads. Even with video unless a patrol catches the rider in the act they'll just deny that it was them on the bike. None have plates so all you need is more than one of same colour to get enough confusion.

matisyahu:

The spellchecker in Apple products - unless you get it 99% correct then it is clueless however if you copy/paste it into Google then magically it comes back with the correct answer no matter how butchered the spelling is.

Much as I love Apple stuff, sometimes they are unaccountably awful. Typing and spelling on iPhones are one those times.

I have had Apple and Android periods of phone ownership and presently use an iPhone 13PM. The typing on the iPhone is far, far worse than the Samsung S series phones I had before that, as is the spelling.

I cannot understand why they are so bad at that - it cannot be a hardware issue.

I’ll tied gifs and it comes out in end iPhone 13 Pro Max. As for can see it’s hardly actual swipe writing.

That should have read

I’ll type this as it comes out on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. As you can see it’s hardly accurate swipe typing.

Yet amazing how every part of "iPhone 13 Pro Max" is flawless, and correctly proper-noun cased.

Computers are central to almost everything in our business but fer krissake I spend a lot of time waiting for the wheels to go round in the IT department and associated 'partners'.

That's different to my experience.  I keep getting distracted by how well it works despite only taking a half pie attempt at it.

When you write to the Mayors Office @ the CCC, sign your email with your name, sent from an email address of your firstname@x.y.y, and they reply with Dear (Another Name)!!!!!!!

I read the rest of the reply with the contempt it deserved!

I am waiting for the Fold 5 to see if they can tempt me away again.

Sourcing a D-shackle to fit my car while borrowing a trailer today.

I measured the hole in my tow bar using a drill bit and from memory 12mm fitted snugly and 10mm was fairly lose. IIRC it probably would have taken 13mm.  Went to Bunnings and purchased an 11mm D-shackle only to find they've oversized the bolt.  I wasn't in the mood for mucking around so just went straight to the shelf, purchased a 10mm shackle and confirmed the bolt fitted.  Back home I then found the D of the shackle wouldn't fit over the thickness of the tow bar platform.

Mitre10 sorted me out by allowing me to try before buying but not before a third failed purchase

People who find it funny to submit fake records to datasets. For example, there was a little jolt in Whakatane a few minutes ago, and someone south of Christchurch has reported damage to their building as a result of it.

Do you mean they've got no chance of getting their old ceiling cracks fixed by insurance?

In the specific case of Christchurch that could also be because there are still plenty of people there who haven't fully recovered from the trauma of the big quakes there.

I'm going with ass-hats personally - someone in Levin recorded a tremor from Whakatane today as "extreme".
