I really liked Wolf of Wall St easy 9/10!

Didn't think American Hustle was that bad either, 7.5/10.

Finally watched safety not guaranteed. 6.5/10 from me. I suspect some answers are in the meeting between Darius and Belinda... Might have to watch that bit again.

Enjoyed a day off while the kids went to school, and went to see 12 Years a Slave
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2024544/

Brilliant, thought provoking, occasionally brutal.  Acting and cinematography was incredible.  9/10

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I'm not sure I would have given this a 6.5, more like a 5.5 because I expected sci-fi, but got a rom-com. Based on what you said here, I took extra care to listen to the conversations but I think it's just a rom-com with a techno plot device. In some places the dialogue seems stretched. I didn't switch it off and I don't think I'll watch it again but it's in that sub category with Warm Bodies - where I was expecting a zombie flick, but got a rom-com, too ;-(

Battle Los Angeles (2011) - I finally watched this last night and expected lots of gung-ho marines pouring ammo into aliens (there is that, but not as I expected). For it's genre, it had a great sense of realistic value - some character development, no romantic scenes at all and some 'believable' tech. I actually enjoyed it and could easily watch it again. 7/10 if alien invasions are your thing.

Don't confuse with Battle of Los Angeles (2011) by SyFy which is a cheap b-grade knock off.

Edited to include this last point, I watched that one first and was only recently corrected.

Might watch The Last Stand since it's on Netflix, just because of too many ron-com lately... Not expecting much, but any comments?

it's a strange film , if you have seen his early action films and enjoyed them then you will like it but if you have been brought up on todays CGI  action film then you will hate it. i gave it 6-7 out of 10 , but i love his early action films.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Finally saw Jack Reacher the movie. It was ok. But TC ain't JR to me. I'm glad I only paid $1 to hire it.

I'm just about to start on a 5th JR book.

+1

I wasn't expecting much, and I got a bit of a surprise.

Arnie should have stayed retired.

Drivel even by his low standards.

meanwhile watched thor the dark world - not a great quality bd but good enough.
film was better than expected but lacked the grandeur of kenneth branagh's original.

also, gravity - exellent pic and sound though repeat viewings dimishes it's already limited appeal.

I reacquainted myself with my drunken alter ego last night and spent most of the day holding down the couch to moving pictures.

World War Z - I didn't read the book, so it's a new experience for me - great zombie flick! 7/10.

Room 237 - Documentary/interviews about the hidden symbolism in The Shinning. Some of it was a bit speculative, but it was interesting. 6.5/10. I like Kubrick's work, this was a great compliment to his genius.

Sirius Disclosure - Documentary about alien contact that is not made by crazy cat people living in trailer parks. Thought provoking, interesting points. The movie was crowd funded.

Saw it yesterday. Pretty good but not violent enough. Should have been 18 and done properly not toned down so kiddies could see it.

That's typical of most Hollywood remakes: cut out the sex 'n violence to get a PG13 rating so they'll get more bums on seats. I said it earlier in this thread: the totally over the top violence was a part of Robo's satire.
