networkn: Self checkout to speed things up at the supermarket to find 4 of the 7 items we had wouldn't scan properly for a variety of reasons. None of it our fault.

At PaknSav every bloody time I have to get person to fix annoying complaining message. I think their AI / camera system either thinks I'm a shop lifter or it is a weight / uneven issue with my bag. PITA.

I was getting some lunch at a different new world when I was over out east way and after the 4th time the self checkout bitched about something I just said F** this and walked off leaving it all there. Hope having to deal with the stuff tanks any savings from their crap self checkout implementation.

We have been shopping in supermarkets in Spain and England for the past three months and, believe me, the implementation is no better in these places. Exactly the same type of frustrations.

So ... maybe self-checkout isn't such a good idea?

I don’t like it at all and only use it if I have 2-3 items and there’s a queue at the proper checkouts. Can’t imagine anything much worse than trying to put a whole trolley-full of stuff through a selfer.

They have a sign up at new world birkenhead saying no trolleys not that it stops many people from taking one in and blocking the one beside it with the trolley while they try to figure out how to put the things on the small tray that they have scanned when it is full.

Our nearest supermarket here is a large Tesco which has two fairly large, separated areas for basket and trolley self-checkouts - to mitigate this problem. You can’t physically get a trolley into the basket area. However unless we have a tiny load, we are not induced to use either of them. We mostly use the proper checkouts - partly because it’s nice to chat with the operators.

Mind you, when you use the selfers, you also get to interact with the staff because they frequently have to come to assist when the selfer screws up. It’s just a less-friendly chat.

Knowing that there are Auroras on the South Coast, living looking out at said coast and not seeing even a glimpse of lights before bed. Then waking up to media photos of the best auroras since 2017. Argh! What time were these.

Walked into an elevator last night, outgoing passenger said good luck.
It dawned on me as the doors closed…..ass, a wall of ass.
Got the look for all the other incoming passengers on the way down to the car
Well played mystery person, well played…

Something similar happened to me once, way back in high school. I still think about it occasionally.

I was on my way from the basement to the ground floor. I'm not sure why I didn't take the stairs, I normally did.

As I got into the lift, some kid didn't recognise jumped in and tried to press all the buttons before rushing out. He successfully pressed every button other than the ground floor that I actually wanted, and when I realised this after the lift had started moving, I accidentally pressed the basement button before selecting the correct one. I arrived at the ground floor where I was greeted by a teacher who then gave me a very dirty look. I agree the look was deserved as I did look very guilty. The only way for the basement to have been selected is if I, the sole occupant, had pressed it. I did. I just didn't press every other button.

So, Mr Simpson, if you are reading this (computer teacher, so maybe), I swear it wasn't me!

I had my 6th Covid-19 and the Flu vaccine on Saturday and it’s the first time I have been hit with side affects. Missed Dawn Parade because of it.

The pricing of items that shows a NZ and an AU price where the NZ price is way way out of line with the exchange rate in comparison to the AU price.

An item in Farmers this morning, $140 AUD - $170 NZD. A quick currency check shows $140 AUD ~ $151.2 NZD. I don't think any differences in GST and the like explains the difference.

It would depend on when that price was set. Oct last year the NZ$ was only AU$0.875, allowing for 10 vs 15% gst the NZ price would have been $167 as straight swap ignoring any other factors.
