Saw it yesterday. Pretty good but not violent enough. Should have been 18 and done properly not toned down so kiddies could see it.

That's typical of most Hollywood remakes: cut out the sex 'n violence to get a PG13 rating so they'll get more bums on seats. I said it earlier in this thread: the totally over the top violence was a part of Robo's satire.

So, is there any satire left or just an action movie now?

There are hints and nods but I felt it was less apparent.

As we march toward 'Idiocracy' becoming the reality, subtle satire is not worth the creative skills required to insert it!

DarthKermit: Finally saw Jack Reacher the movie. It was ok. But TC ain't JR to me. I'm glad I only paid $1 to hire it.

I'm just about to start on a 5th JR book.

TC is JR to no one but himself...!

raid redemption - as an uber violent, over the top, action/martial arts movie it completely succeeds = 8/10 from me

Have you seen Dredd (2012)? That was R18 and didn't hold back at all on the violence. Unfortunately it didn't do well at the box office.

Was a great movie, although at times a little too violent - but the idea was to portray Mega City One as a cess pit. It did that extremely well.

I've watched it several times and still enjoy it.

Yes I loved Dredd!....   the second time around :)

It didn't help that I had previously watched The Raid before watching Dredd at the movies.

I know it didn't do so well due to the R18 rating @ the movies but it did however sell quite well on disc, like the original Kick A$$ did.

Finally got around to watching After Earth over the wet weekend.

That's an hour and a half of my life wasted that I will never get back. It was a real stinker. Dull, tedious, unimaginative and utterly predictable.

Avoid.

Robocop 2013/14 - Went to this movie with an open mind, remaking a cult/classic film like Robocop is not something I would like to try. I will have to say it was a stinker. Slow and tedious at times, no character build up between him and his partner. 2 decent one liners in the whole film.

I didn't feel emotionally involved and I was not really rooting for his revenge warpath, which felt very rushed and felt like it wasn't really the main focus.
They could have done more with him and his family, but that too felt under done.

The news reporting done by Samuel L. Jackson just felt dull and lacked humor, also I'm over him as an actor. The part where America was the greatest and the random swearing just felt try hard to me.

No fancy gun twirling, although they did show the gun appearing from his leg. The black armor looked plastic/rubber and to me lost that robot look. I can only remember twice him being referred to as Robocop in the entire film.

2 out of 5 for me, it was an average movie.

I'm tryin' to think of any remake that resulted in a movie better or equal to the original.

While I was a huge fan of the original movie at the time, I think if I watched it now I would think its crap...
Much like Total Recall, a remake of one of my childhood fav movies is just going to suck without question and I refuse to go and see them...

Watched Saving Mr Banks last night. Pretty good movie, although it seems they made Walt Disney more likeable than real life. Good acting, 8/10 on that one.

Let's hope they leave Blade Runner alone.
