Right, cancelling Food Bag. They've just sent me a box of ingredients with no recipes whatsoever. That's the last straw.

Plastic or cardboard straws?

It could be treated as a challenge to figure out what to make with said ingredients.  But that kinda defeats the point of such food boxes being that you get them so you don't have to think about meal prep.

The recipes are also in the app, but it is nicer to have the paper one to go off.

The recipes are on the website but they haven't bothered to set up a print-friendly stylesheet so you need to faff with copying them into an editor and tidying them up before you can print. My printer's not compatible with my phone, and the app's not compatible with my computer. In any case it's not clear whether you can print them from the app anyway. It's a mess.

Can't you just read it off a phone/tablet?

The phone gets filthy, and mostly doesn't respond to input because wet fingers and touchscreens don't mix.

Some tosser is setting off fireworks and stressing our dogs out.

Fireworks are for Guy Fawkes, not you kids birthday, not because" We are just having fun", or any other reason.

If your "Fun" including upsetting animals and families with young kids, then your "fun" needs to be reassessed.

And this is one of the reasons I am all for the removal of publicly available fireworks for sale.

MikeAqua:

My parcel from Bangood has ben stuck at MPI for 12 days. ...

On a plus note, Bangood chat was very responsive.

@MikeAqua , did you get anywhere with this.

I also have an item stuck in MPI (a tyre for an e-scooter) for about 12 days as well now, saying it's waiting for an import declaration, and that I (as the 'importer') will receive an email requesting this.  No such email has arrived.  I've queried it with the NZ Post Contact Centre who have been responsive and tried to be helpful but Roxy's escalation to the NZPost eCommerce team, who are supposed to be progressing this, has gone into a black hole, even though that team has missed their service level target for responding.

Unlike your experience with Bangood, the AliExpress seller hasn't even read my chat.  It's now past its delivery date  so I may apply for a refund, that should kick them into life.  I really don't want a refund though, I need my tyre.

I suspect that all that MPI really need is an adequate description of the item, there's nothing sinister about it or about its cost/value and there  is no bio-risk.  Why is it so hard??

Because the sheer volume of packages coming through the mail system is basically increasing year on year and the systems and people are struggling to cope.

But yes, accurate and adequate descriptions from the seller would help but we (NZ recipients) do not have any say or control over that.

Fireworks or just the start of duck shooting season?

This annoys me https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300873898/missing-student-swept-away-by-floodwaters-on-school-trip-to-abbey-caves-whangrei

The fact that a school thought an outdoor ed trip to some caves was a good idea when this weather has been predicted for some days now...outrageous and may have cost a child their life as a result.

So bad planning is the root cause then.

I realise I don't know all the details of the back-end processes and systems but:

  • If the NZ Post Tracker says it needs an MPI Import Declaration why not have a simple webform for this and include a link within the tracker page (this must be a pretty frequent occurrence) so people can provide the info there and then as soon as they see its stuck in MPI.
  • Roxy the Contact Centre rep has spent more time talking to me and writing emails than it would have taken for an eCommerce 'do-er' to contact me to get the information.

Many moons ago, I was a very enthusiastic caver, and spent a decent amount of time in the Abbey Caves - they are quite extensive, and known for flooding in heavy rain. No one with a clue would ever consider going in even if they were all highly experienced, let alone taking a bunch of high-school kids.

I don't support removing them from public sale as there are alternative solutions to address the noise issue.

I do think we should limit their use to November 5th, with a reasonable allowance for bad weather. This is done overseas.

For people who aren't familiar with them, those caves are narrow and twisty, have rough boulders you need to climb over, and above all have stretches that are water-filled even on a dry summer's day, waist-deep water and cascades over rocks, it was absolute insanity to go in there with the amount of rain that was forecast. From the news reports they actually said that it was far too wet to go rock-climbing as planned so they decided to go into some narrow flooded caves instead...

The caves are at the bottom of a steep valley that flood easily at the best of times. They're great caves to explore in the right conditions but even in summer, you're wading at the very least. I've had to swim to get across some parts deep inside there. At this time of year, hypothermia will be a factor as well. What a horrible situation.
