Geektastic: That you can’t recycle lids for some reason.

At least you're aware. The local council used to say "Check the lids; if they have the 1 to 7 symbols on them, they can be recycled too!" (courtesy of the Wayback Machine), but then at some point they changed the rules to "no lids".

I say "at some point" because this was done through stealth; the rules on the website were updated but as far as I'm aware the rule change wasn't otherwise publicised. A short while later, the council had a grizzle in the newspaper about people not following the rules.

Suspiciously enough, my local council (Hamilton) doesn't have an opinion about lids in the recycling. They do ask that you take lids off glass containers in their separate recycle bin and put them with the mixed paper/plastic/metal recycling.

Possibly its because they don't use the same automated machinery as other councils. Maybe they pay real people to do the picking. Maybe they use a better automatic machine. Or maybe it all gets chucked in the landfill while we're not looking...

For Wellington inhabitants, the recycling centre (Tip Shop) at the Southern Landfill accepts lids for recycling. Types 2, 5, and metal.

They also accept batteries.

I know it's been quite wet recently, but don't get on the motorway and do 60kmh in a 100 zone when it's only light showers and the rest of the traffic is doing 100kmh. You're literally a dangerous moving object 😠

The 'new look' trademe website doesnt allow you to edit the closing time of live listings without having to confirm the following. Even though there's already photos and shipping options set up....

You've missed some things:

  • Please confirm you don't want to add any photos.
  • Please select a shipping option.

Oh good grief, I hate software sometimes. We have a database at work, and today I was trying to look at some historical records that were created before a new mandatory field was added to that type of record. I click the first search result. "Nope, that's not the one I'm looking for", I say to myself, and click the next one. "You haven't completed this field!" it screams in big red text. I had to go right out and do the search again just to see the second record.

Grr. Tested something in the test environment, retested it in the test environment, then deployed to production and it failed.

This reminds me of one of my biggest annoyances

Websites that conveniently remind you that you have left out a field in a form. And then when you go back to add that one field that you forgot the website clears everything that you entered into the other fields!

Made the mistake of going into the office yesterday.
Normally WFH or a local satellite office, but had some meetings so went into the City.
Took an hour and a quarter to travel 17kms at 7.30am.

Wasn't a happy camper.

Then it took an hour to get home at 5.15pm.

As bad as what tasted like an entire lemon squeezed on my pork schnitzel by the chef. Totally ruined the meal from first bite. Had ordered it many times before and it came plain.

I always ask that they put all sauces and extras in separate containers so that I can select what I want and how much I want to add to my food. Too many chefs completely hide the actual taste of food by adding too many flavours.

I'll never understand the idea of hiding flavours beneath condiments. If a chef is good enough, they'll want to highlight the great flavours of their food.

I've heard stories from people so used to sauces etc. where they've gone to "proper" restaurants and then complained because the food is "plain".

This is done to ‘set’ the egg white more quickly and supposedly help it keep its shape better. Nothing to do with the flavour at all, and I hate it as well.
