neb: Fixya, a site for asking questions about, well, fixing stuff, like a washing machine power switch. You're sitting there in the forum for XYZ Brand Washing Machines and post a question about the wiring for an XYZ Brand washing machine, which it dumps into Motorcycles - Miscellaneous, with no way to move it into the forum that you actually asked the question in. After four more attempts to get it posted in the forum you're currently in you give up and delete your account... which isn't possible, because they don't allow you to delete accounts. How can a site this awful be so popular? Presumably it's because so many of the Google hits for fixing various appliances lead there, because it certainly isn't the site's functionality that does it.

I've never had good results with Fixya

People who say rout when they really mean route.

Don't be lazy and use the stupid American vernacular, use the correct pronunciation. They are two different words.

What about it, just like hair, hare, and plenty of other examples.

Try saying the following, describing a hiking trip, and decide how you'd pronounce the word "route" in it:

"I tried a new route with a girl I'd met at a party. It was a good route although we were pretty sweaty and exhausted afterwards".

I'll be using the US pronunciation, thanks.

Have a look at how the French pronounce forté

For some silly lols, ask an American what they would do with a soldering iron.

Considering they don't put an accent on it... it's not like that :)

It's actually a mangling since the French word is "fort" ("strong") pronounced "four". The Italian musical direction is for-tay. So pronouncing "forte" as "fort" is wrong for both French and Italian.

Don't get me started on "fanny"

They'll happily help you with your soddering though.  I guess that's some kind of turf laying technique.

Depending on which part of the US they're from it's more likely sardering. Maybe something to do with sardine processing?

French Forté has the acute which makes the E sound like an A? Correct? I've ever heard it said any other way?

French doesn't have a word Forté, the French word is fort. The Italian word is forte, no accent.

Given that the word Forté is wrong in either language, I would suggest pronouncing it "ghoti".

At work going full BYOD as I hate the size of the work laptops (big, bulky 15" HP Elitebook's). Handing in my laptop this morning to find that also means I am handing over the laptop dock too and have to purchase my own.

So have been working all of today in the office without a laptop dock at my desk. Thankfully, the MacBook also has about 20hrs of battery life else I would have been fully stuffed.

Told my boss there is no incentive buying a dock if I can just work from home where I've got a fit for purpose setup. He agreed.

Try being English and listening to Kiwis. Pen/Pin. Six/Sex. Ten/Tin etc Believe it or not, even after living here almost 20 years, i still meet people that I cannot understand and have to ask them to repeat what they said more slowly!
