Annoyance no 1 - Thieves steal copper roof from observatory.

Annoyance no 2- 200,000 to repair. How the hell does it cost $200,000 to stick a few bits of metal to some wood...

That looks like an awful lot of custom formwork by specialists who are presumably in very short supply in NZ. A branch of Neb's family does this work in Europe and it's not just a case of stapling a few sheets in place, for custom shaping like this you need to book the right people a long time in advance, and it's a lot of work getting it formed up.

Having said that, today it may make more sense to put in a fibreglass (FRP) dome, it'd do the same as copper but be lighter, cheaper, easier to manufacture, and uninteresting to thieves.

I don't doubt its highly skilled work and takes many years to learn, but the price...

This doesn't annoy me per se, but still worth a mention. I read an article today that referenced an opinion piece from a 2004 issue of a print magazine. How was this referenced? "In a blog post by [name]..."

On-line mandatory security training.

More specifically, training that explicitly says to "apply your common sense" but in the test the correct answer is "apply your company's policies"

And also, training that shows you "delete social media accounts" as one option in a multi-select test question. But if you don't tick it, it marks you wrong, then says "You don't have to delete your social media accounts, but be careful".

And also, getting that last question wrong twice in a row.

Stuff like this -

Quite interesting. Annoying if you're affected by such petty bureaucracy. Lucky that kind of thing can't happen here...

That NZ has missed the point of Food Trucks, and per gram of food, you are talking about, in many instances, the same price you'd pay for fine dining in Auckland CBD.

The fact that for some reason you cannot use Apple Pay in the NZ App Store in Mac OSX which you can do in the US and Europe.

Also the fact that none of the saved card details on your Mac are carried into the App Store requiring you to enter each one again manually.

A very un-Apple like mess.

People who only type information into chats if the other person is there in 'real time'.
If you've got something to say in the chat (an update on the task we have at hand) go ahead and say it.
You don't need to wait for your 'good morning'  message to be acknowledged before you ask questions and/or provide an update.

Amongst all of our house hassles (i.e. the post-flooding "renovations") our dishwasher was resinstalled, so we could have a "normal" life for a few weeks while the new scope of work is written up and submitted before the insurers sign it off and we get to phase three of the reinstatement.

We were so excited to be done with hand washing dishes. We filled the Dishwasher. Then started it. Then it stopped and bleeped. It's flashing a warning code.

Manual says "water leak". We call the plumber. Thursday rocks around - he turns up and spends an hour playing with it and the plumbing - nope. It's not his work that's to blame. It's a case of horrible timing and our less-than-five-year-old dishwasher is playing up.

A man is now on his way to look at it. grrr...

You must be incredibly strong to deal with all of this. You sure don't seem to have much luck with things. I hope they improve for you.

yes I have someone that does that to me.

Starts off as “hey”

I stop what I’m doing to stare at the message expecting more but nope I have to reply back for more.

Just send me a “hey good morning there’s an issue with x have you heard from z?”

I can then decide on its urgency to break away from what I’m working on or not.

What about "Are you free?" or "Got a second?" followed by them immediately vanishing for 20 minutes.
