Behodar:
The absurdity of Google Maps. I was at the Wellington waterfront and asked for directions to an address in Manawatu. It proposed a rather 'scenic' route, via Picton.
I remember following Google Maps once and it had to drive 2km to a roundabout, come back the other way haha
Skiied for the first time ever today. Spent 3 hours on the snow, didn't fall over once!

Did you get up off the snow? :-)

Could have gone faster then. ;)

Heh, I was able to turn a little bit by halfway down the short slope I was on, but to get up the speed I see others doing, I would need to be able to turn much much better :) Something I think I'd need a lesson for :)

You've misunderstood skiing. Turning is to slow down, not go faster. At the top, point skis downhill. At the bottom, learn how to turn when going fast. :) To some extent, turning is easier on steeper slopes (less weight on your skis) and when going faster (more reaction from the snow). Of course, the consequences of not turning are greater too.

I'm saying, I am not happy to go faster, until I can turn with more confidence, so I can avoid hazards. I don't think leaning backwards was correct, but I definitely didn't feel comfortable leaning forward until the last few meters on the nearly flat.
For my first day on Ski's I felt pretty happy with my efforts, though the one time I got knocked over, no chance I could get up on my own, I was like a turtle on my back and someone had to help me up. I might have still been there otherwise. I need to work on my flexibility.

Definitely gotta lean forward. WAY more forward then you'd think too! And you dont just bend forward at the waist. Got lean forward from your ankles. Try and get your hips over your toes. At first it feels all wrong. However, this gives you more control. Leaning back means you'll lose all control of your skis. If you think leaning back will slow you down - it wont :)
For basic turning, especially if you're using the plow/pizza you just shift your weight to the outside ski. So if you want to turn left, you lean onto the right ski and vice versa.
Definitely advise getting a lesson. It really helps you advance so much quicker and that'll give you more confidence too.
I have never skied but in my youth I was a serious roller skater. I imagine there are some similarities. You never skate with all four wheels flat on the surface. That is the mark of a beginner. It is also why beginners flail and fall over. You always skate on an edge. That means you always skate in an arc, even if going forward or back. It is the momentum that gives you balance. This also applies to two-wheelers, like bicycles or motorcycles. The faster you go, the more stable you are. If you stop, you fall over.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
Yeah, I am a snowboarder, but it's been a few years. No momentum, no control! Was funny, I was watching the boarders come down the hill and I could feel my leg muscles twitching as they switched edges.
