Being targeted by really sophisticated scammers / hackers trying to move money out of our accounts.

And my "Spiny senses" feeling that the repeated calls from an Unknown Number pretending to be from the ANZ Fraud Team were scammers was proven right!

Key indicators were:

Foreign (Non Asian) accents

Referred to as Sir repeatedly

Bad VOIP call!

Time of the essence, high pressure urgency from them!

You will have just received a Text Code for a $41000 transfer, we need the code TO CANCEL it! - Yeah right - NO WAY in hell am I giving you that code!

9 Calls in total.....including the line of "If you hang up again, all fraud from this point will not be covered by the Bank"!

One call said their colleague will call me shortly then hung up. Next call sounded exactly like the other person yet said he wasn't and he would put me on hold until the other "colleague" was available!

Why call back, and not transfer back and forth!

Held the line on hold for 25 minutes, then hung up in order for his "colleague" to call back! (To hold the phone so I couldn't call anyone else) (I have multiple available!)

Why call back again, and not transfer back and forth!

The Scammers are either ex ANZ or Moonlighting as they knew too much about the system! (Partner works for ANZ)

I NEVER wanted Internet Banking or Phone Banking - the ANZ forced it on me! (Partner was there at the time and witnessed that I didn't want it and it was "forced"!)

I can see how Fraud IS so high! My spiny senses were right and "saved the day"! Not everyone is a Paranoid Cynic like me!

The REAL ANZ Fraud Team is now investigating it etc!

Whoa! You get chemicals and cheap fats? Lucky!

Ohhhh we used to dream of chemicals and cheap fats! All we got was a handful of hot gravel before we worked twenty hours a day at the mill for tuppence a month.

Mate, I'm still not sure today if it was pebbles or granite, but it was a happy time back then. 😄

BTW: I found 3% cocoa in the ingridients list of a chocolate product of the mentioned company and no real milk at all.

Here's something for the people who still think 2FA without a physical ID is secure. It is NOT. 😎

Physical tokens will not help with having your session taken by running malware on a logged in system.

We were watching the first episode of the series Truelies (terrible episode) on TVNZ+ last evening and it was interrupted around every 6 minutes with adverts promoting their own content. Was very frustrating and add to the mix a poor production, hmmm completely out of character for me a few colourful expletives.

Call centres that open with the message "we are currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes", and have been saying that for years (at least since the pandemic started, but in some cases probably earlier).  After a while, it's now the norm, surely? Unless your call volumes are increasing every day (but logically there will be an upper limit to this), what you're saying (but won't admit) is that you have more calls than you have capacity to handle.  When I hear that message I just know that it's a company that either can't (or won't) invest in support.

Secondary annoyance - when they interrupt their hold music every 30 seconds with a message about "your call is important to us" or "did you know you can do XYZ on our website?" It would be nice if their automated message service could recognise that it's already served me that message, and it doesn't need to remind me every 30 seconds...

Tertiary annoyance - call centres that only have 4 songs in their hold music, and due to their "higher than normal call volumes" make me endure listening to that same playlist over and over and over...

I have a firewall that seems to block whatever it is that YT uses to play ads. Worth every cent.

Got a call today from someone who was either a scammer or a telemarketer trying it on. It was to my personal cellphone from someone with an Australian accent claiming to represent some company with a fuel card I used, except I've never used a fuel card. They then mentioned the company it was for, which is a holding entity that exists for licensing purposes which does no business, has no assets, and certainly doesn't run vehicles (you'd think a name like Holdings (Holdings) Holdings PLC would be a bit of a giveaway). Suggested he do his homework a bit better next time..

I have various adblockers and piholes which are awesome but can't block YT ads on the telly or chromecast.

If yours can do that, please provide the deets.

Then surely you can tell us all what helps in this case, can't you?

I only ever watch, meaning run the audio in the background, on the laptop, so I'm not sure which bit is contributing to the ad blocking, I just notice the huge difference between what I get and what Mother Neb gets on her TV. The device is a Firewalla, which does a fantastic job of managing things on the network.

I'm thinking of going that way at some stage, tend to watch quite a bit on there now and the number of ads seem to have increased a lot lately. Lucky to get through two music videos without any now, usually copping ads after each song and for a longer period.
