But note the different markings which the linked article also points out, there's a difference between "best before" and "use by", as well as other vague labeling like "sell by". Also, a lot of food isn't required to have any date marking on it, like the tins of buffalo meat marked "US Cavalry" that we have stored under the sink. Conversely, where there's a legal requirement to put on a date marking the date may be well short of the actual lifetime of the food, Twinkies come immediately to mind.

For the OP, what food was it and what exact date marking was on the food?

Shredded chicken, a cake, ground coffee, ham, biscuits and soup spring to mind.

One particular supermarket seems to be particularly bad at it. I've learned to count down the dates when buying there.

Thanks, Ingram.

Apparently they have none in stock - an item I've purchased two of already in the last couple of weeks.

With all this news about rich people buying Teslas, why is everyone on NZ news pronouncing it Tezla?

Nicola Tesla would have pronounced his name in the Serbian way with an unvoiced 'S' not as a 'Z'.

Purchasing a new 55" TV from NL and 2 days later receiving a email if you buy this product now you will get a $200 give voucher, dam...

NL will sort that for you. Give their 0800 number a call.

Yes phoned them and also went in to the NL store and they would not do anything about the voucher, said I was not within the date range.

but unrelated to the voucher, I returned the TV as I was not happy with it and they refunded the purchase amount in full (thought I was going to get a store credit).

So, back to looking for another 55" TV.

Cheers

Like this Himalayan salt - 250 million years old, but is best before the 23rd of March this year. At 7:42pm exactly!

A couple of years ago Apple decided to remodel all their first-party app icons and make them all square with rounded corners. Since then, third-party developers have decided that they must copy this insanity. Now it takes twice as long to find any particular app because all the icons look so similar.

At some point, even members of parliament from the Greens (here in GER) belong to the establishment and differ from the other parties only in the party name and the kind of fantasies that miss reality.

The met service saying not much chance of thunderstorms in Rotorua only to be waken with thunder making the bed shake and lightning knocking out the power and the dog trying to get into bed with us. They dont seem to get much right lately.

Many tongues, many dialects it’s all part of the richness of language. I have my surname pronounced in many ways but the meaning is always the same.
