gehenna: Here's Bruce (white with a black cape) and Alfred (grey stripes).  They're brothers, as you can tell by their shared inability to control their limbs:

Awesome cats! How old are they? Are the names a reference to Batman?

They're a year old now. Yep we thought Bruce looked like he had a cape on, and Alfred was grey haired, so it seemed natural :)  He mainly gets called Alfie though.

Just a Trade Me Inc. jobby.  Had a bit of a rigmarole to get it though.... ordered the one in the picture, but was delivered one half the size in a busted box.  Seller tried to refund me the difference, then tried to get me to pay to post the wrong one back.  In the end they caved and sent the right one (again in a busted box) and arranged pickup of the wrong one.

It's pretty good but they only really use it to sleep on, typical!  Bruce is way too big for the hammock on top, which is why it is bent and I had to fold it over so it is supported underneath (normally it would swing out over the edge of the unit with nothing under it).  But he refuses to sleep in anything else.  Basically only his stomach fits in it now!

DarthKermit: I remember back in 2002, I went away to the South Island for two full weeks. Blackie was sooo happy to see me when I returned. That was the longest time we ever were apart, when he was still alive.

It's funny how there's a widespread misconception that cats are indifferent towards people and only see us as a source of food. Having had a lot of experience with them I can honestly say one of the best things about cats is seeing them express how much they appreciate you when you come home to them.

Absolutely.  Some people say cats don't express them selves, but their facial expressions and body language fairly shout at you at times.  Their little eyes half close as they go into a dream like state as you fuss them.  Their eyes go wide when they get excited or ready for the hunt.  Or sometimes you'd have trouble saying exactly what is different, but you can read them plain as day all the same.

There's that classic thing they do when you return after a long absence.  The initial joy at seeing you, quickly replaced by feigned indifference as they pretend they don't even care that you buggered off and left them!  You total human barstewards!!!

These went on Bored Panda today.  Before and after images of adopted animals. Warning, some of the before images will break your heart!

We have finally found a nice wooden photo frame for this pic of my late Blackie:

He's got a nice place on the wall in our lounge now. It almost feels like he's looking down on us from above.

And I don't mean that in a religious sense, as I have no religious beliefs.

Love ya, my old kitty pal.

Our baby girl (the black kitten) will be going in to the vets to be fixed on Monday. They're both four months old as of tomorrow.
