Handle9:

I'd class it on a different level to the premiditation that appears to have taken place with the Wanaka couple.

You don't accidentally end up at a ski field. They didn't have pre-departure tests unlike the Wanaka couple, and were undertaking physical activity in the presence of one presumes a fairly decent number of people.

It's just as outrageous.

People just want to be outraged.

No, people don't want to be outraged. They want everyone else to follow the ***ing rules so we can get out of lockdown. Not expecting to get eviscerated a million stir-crazy Aucklanders who are doing the right thing is just another example of how out of touch they were and remain. The only people I'm really willing to feel much sympathy for are those who break the rules to go see dying loved ones, but that's a pretty small percentage I bet. Everyone else? No. You're in the wrong, you know you're in the wrong, and you're wiping your backside on the hard work of the rest of us.

It seems a lot of these other people are actually getting charged, including the 20 year old who went for a Maccas run.

There are plenty of breaches occurring in the lower-income bracketed people as well. Not to mention the Ferns are allowing their Auckland contingent to join them. Not exactly essential (and I am a fan of the Ferns and sport in general).

People just want to be outraged.

No, there's more to it than that.

Lawyers are in society's elite. They're educated and dedicated and intelligent enough to make it through the required study. They work with the law - so they're in a privileged position to know what society expects from its' members.

They're required to be of good character to make it into the profession.

So this person who has gone through and knows all this STILL made a decision that abusing their status as an essential worker and leaving for Wanaka for some skiing was , at least to her, OK.

What are the thought processes in the mind of such a person to make them go to Wanaka when there should be so many things making them stay in Auckland?

This is why people are angry with her and her partner - because they believe the only things in that person's mind are things like entitlement and selfishness.

Truck driver leaving L4?

Well, TBH he's not nearly as interesting as this sideshow.

Geekit,   Well take a wider picture then decorate the jump as a Tableau of the Bombay Hills.
Maybe a miniature Fruit and Veggie shop on each side holding the bars up.
In the style that fancy cross country events decorate jumps.

I do wonder if his defense will include that he did take legal advice, all the way to Wanaka and beyond.

As well they should. There is a mechanism in place for handling these situations and punishing these people. If that punishment doesn't meet your expectations, write your MP.

What point is it that you think actually needs making? There's almost literally no point in the existence of of a discussion forum if the default repsonse is "if you don't like it, tell someone else".

If you know skiing, you know lift queues, although it's possible that Aucklanders (apart from these idiots) being absent, the queues are much shorter or even nonexistant. But typically you're standing shoulder to shoulder in a crowd of 50 or more, and probably breathing heavily. The only good aspect is that it's outdoors, otherwise it would be a perfect way to spread respiratory viruses.

johny99: Now mommy dearest is threatening stuff……, poor as mum in south Auckland apologized off her own back on breakfast TV, this lady runs for the hills.

Mommy also sold all her shares in the horse business before  the name suppression lapsed. May have been worthless afterwards.

Actually, it was a transfer of her shares in the company from her (from 66% to nil) to her husband (from 34% to 100%), as a quick search of the Companies Office records shows:

The point is, getting outraged that someone can use their knowledge and money to get a different result than someone without those things, isn't something worthy shouting at the people doing it, rather the people who allow it.
