Scarlett is a 1991 novel by Alexandra Ripley, written as a sequel to Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel, Gone with the Wind.

I loved it. When I finished i read it again. Big fan of "Gone with the Wind" and "Scarlett" storyline.

Read 2 days straight (no sleep) living on coffee and sultana cake. Ended up with a Migraine.... oh well.

Every year I read, lord of the rings. Been doing this since I was 10 years old.

Have been reading return on influence by Mark scheafer lately. Give it a good read then may be you will grasp the art of influencing people and getting the desired outcome from that. :)

Can't believe it's been 2 years since this was last updated. Did no-one read any books?

Ready Player one is due out at the movies next week. It's getting amazing reviews. I had shortlisted it to read, but I am about 8 books behind right now and I want to see the movie near when it opens.

Has anyone read it and able to provide some insight as to whether you found it easy to read/ a good read and worth investing before seeing the movie?

Read Bill Bryson's Down Under while in Oz. I am a Bryson fan but hadn't got to it previously. It didn't please me as much as I expected. Not sure why. I enjoyed other works of his more. Maybe my expectations have become unrealistic, or I have just got older.

After finishing that, I started re-reading Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes. A truly great work.

The counterpane episode out of "Notes From A Small Island" will always be my favourite.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I've just finished A Mind at Play: How Claude Shannon Invented the Information Age. I'd never heard of Claude Shannon until a few months back when I came across his name in another book and did some more digging. This book was an easy read about a super interesting guy (though personally I would have preferred a bit more depth about some of the science). Annoyingly, not available on Kindle in NZ.

I like biographies (I've read a few others recently too), but find them much harder to get in to and have to mix it up with a bit of candyfloss for the brain (and I don't think there's anything wrong with that). Scott Meyer's Magic 2.0 series is a recent favourite that I strongly suspect will appeal to the Geekzone crowd.

This one is an Audio Book. "West Cork" it's called about an unsolved murder in Ireland 1996

Absolutely stunning could NOT stop listening! Can't recommend enough especially if you liked the "Serial" podcasts

It's only available on Audible which requires a sign up and a free month trial, I finished all 13 episodes in 2 days!

I enjoyed it - its a quick and easy read, and if you grew up in the 80s, is basically a huge string of geek-culture references tied into a standard dystopic plot. The trailer for the movie seems to be pretty true to the novel, if a bit glossier.

Recent reads include: Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey - Pulp, violent, funny, I like it, I'm up to about book 7 in the series now.

Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan - technically a re-read, but I felt I had to revisit it before I watched the Netflix series. Highly recommended if you like bladerunneresque sci-fi noir detective stories.

The City Stained Red by Sam Sykes - Fantasy, gritty, D&D-ish, rounded characters, humour and a decent plot. Plus, I recommend you follow the author on Twitter, his posts are amazing.

So many, I can't even recall them (at least one a week on average).

Just listening to Richard Dawkins read The God Delusion which is interesting.

Recently, I can recommend Cry Fear and Cry Havoc by Mike Morris. Great ripping yarns set in a world in which a country surrounded by sea is threatened by invasion by vampires and a warrior priest caste have the job of preventing it. It's a storyline that has seen similar telling elsewhere but this is a well written and original take on it.

Hillsborough - The Truth by Phil Scraton (PhD)

A detailed and quite harrowing account of what led to the disaster, the horrendous event itself and a particular focus on what happened afterwards with the numerous lies and cover-ups by the authorities.

I found it quite heavy-duty but certainly interesting, revealing and possibly a bit imbalanced.

If you're going to read it make sure you get the 2016 edition.

I tried reading his series of Bourne books, and found they all ran into each other in terms of storyline and ended up giving up. Perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention to them, and it might have been cos they were right after one another. Or maybe I'm just a bit simple.
