That's a uniquely Kiwi thing that defies logic.  Compulsory insurance would also by default add a lot of control around who drives what sort of vehicles, and would in my opinion do a lot more to reduce road toll than fancy adverts or stupidly low speed limits.  But NZ seems to have a logical blindspot to this

Would it actually change anything? There are those that drive without licences, WOFs and regos. If insurance is compulsory, how does it change?

If you’re going to change your systems such that things are going to be broken, please contact your customers so that they’re not directing blame to the wrong party.

If you’re making changes to your systems with batches of customers affected at a time, don’t lie to them and say it’s a “bug”.

Now, where can I send my invoices for the time spent fixing your (our) customer’s problems?

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

That my car insurance this year is $150 more expensive than the amount I paid for it brand new 3 years ago.

Systems/services/companies that assume that each person has one email address, and that any email address is assigned exclusively to one person.

My power bill went up 60%. They graciously decided to stop charging a daily "solar metering charge".

By that logic, why bother with laws at all?

It’s partly down to the pathetic levels of enforcement we seem happy with. In the U.K. it’s a bit harsher:

Penalties for uninsured drivers
The police could give you a fixed penalty of £300 and 6 penalty points if you’re caught driving a vehicle you’re not insured to drive.

If the case goes to court you could get:

an unlimited fine
disqualified from driving
The police also have the power to seize, and in some cases, destroy the vehicle that’s being driven uninsured.

(Note: that’s the equivalent of $650 and 50 points here)

The country is blanketed with NPR cameras and all police vehicles have them too so any uninsured vehicle is flagged instantly.

Even with the higher level of enforcement the UK still has around 1M uninsured vehicles 3-4%. About 8% of NZ vehicles are uninsured. In NZ ACC covers the most expensive liability personal injury.

Having cameras only works if you have Police on the road in a position to apprehend the target vehicle.

Why do you say that? A speed camera doesn't need an officer to chase you down, the bill turns up in the mail.
Surely the same cameras could check rego and WoF/CoF at the same time?

You’re assuming that the plates on the vehicle can be traced to an address.

It depends on what's being enforced in the UK. For example rape has been effectively decriminalised, only 1% of offenders get successfully prosecuted. OTOH get caught driving without insurance...

Trying to renew that RealMe thing.

Can't remember name or password, so ask to be rememnded, they send codes for both so they can be typed in / changed.

Then they want my secret code  / secret questions. You don't think maybe if I can't remember name or password I'm not going to remember those either ?

They post the fines.

They don’t need to stop you.

“The Wamakariri District Council is also encouraging residents in Tuahiwi to self-evacuate.”

Self-evacuate?! What is this fresh new linguistic hell? Just “evacuate” is all you need.

Right up there with self-isolate and earthquake-prone.
