That's awful, at least no-one is hurt. Would have given her a hell of a fright.
Did the car get shunted to that position? Was it parked just before the yellow lines?
The young lady in question is probably in for a world of pain with her insurance company, being out after 10 on a restricted license. She may well be up for paying all of the damages back to the company as she was for all intents and purposes driving without a license.

She doesn't sound like a boy racer and a dumb mistake when you are young should not destroy your whole life. She needs to be made to fully understand the consequences of her actions (what if her inattention had killed someone?) and she needs to pay for the damage, but she probably deserves a second chance.

Oh I fully agree. Many of us have had second chances that have let us get back on track.
But insurance companies are not known for their warm fuzzy attitudes, and may well see her restricted license status as an easy way to get out of paying for anything.

'an easy way to get out of paying for anything' - oh surely not...

Have a look at Acorn Rentals. They'll provide you a courtesy car and charge it to the other party's insurance. I haven't used them myself so I can't endorse first-hand, but worth checking out.

If you're going to be accurate about the name of Greece, then surely you should write Ελλάς ??
However, the Europeans in particular have long ago been stopped being precious about their country's or city's name in another language. e.g. Geneva is Genève, Genf, Ginevra, or Genevra depending on which Swiss official language you speak, and of course "Geneva" is notably absent. But no-one cares if you say Geneva.
See also air tickets - which will say Geneva in order no doubt to avoid confusion (the purpose of communication..!)

I tried that. It’s as simple as “that’s what we charge if you want your car”. The $5,000 extra tax was even more painful.
I believe we are at the end of “the happy times” for car retailers. They have been in gravy for the last 3 years where closed borders and people looking for something to spend their disposable income on, combined with supply constraints, have meant demand has outstripped supply. That has led to the mentality of “if you want this car, you have to pay this premium”. But supply is up and soon demand may well be down (CoL crisis anyone?).
As for the ‘tax’, I mean fee, the dealers are at pains to point out it’s not their fault. But if there is a change of government and the “ute tax” is abolished, your car will instantly be worth $5000 less. Or will the dealers just increase their margin?
I do not know; Subaru add the tax as a clear and seperate line item, they do not roll it up into the list price.
I did get an explanation about the ORC. I was told it was discounted from the now standard fee of $2,000 which is high because of the cost of transporting the cars to the dealer.
Given that a car must be delivered to wherever it is sold, I would have thought that the cost of doing that is part of the cost of the car quoted by Subaru NZ but apparently it is not.
I believe that there are also dealer level fines/taxes now under the CCD regime depending on the average 'cleanliness' of what they sell each period. If that is the case, no doubt they are busy trying to fob that off on the customer as well...!

The car was shunted approx. 10m from where it was parked to where the photo shows it resting.
I have no idea how fast she must've been going to move a car in Park with a handbrake engaged that far down the road.

People's inability to drive down a suburban road without totalling a car parked at the side of said road.
My poor son's car got smashed into last night while he was out. He was going to take his car, but I took him to the bus station, so he could have a drink if he wanted.
Now he's freaking out about how he's going to get to Uni, Football practice, girlfriend's place etc.
It looks like absolutely no family member should be allowed to do without any insurance policy in the area you live. (After the house now this, what‘s next?) 😉
But on the other hand, it is worth it - for example, I have only ever paid premiums, but have hardly ever had to make a claim on an insurance policy. However, I take the liberty of not taking out certain policies according to the probability of damage and prefer to cover damage myself so as not to only finance insurance contracts.
One can be glad that apart from sheet metal, no one was harmed.

Possible she was glancing at phone as it takes a split second at speed with eyes off the road to hit a parked car.
Sorry for your son, poor kid doing the right thing.
My son knows a couple of the driver's friends (they're all a similar age).
She apparently was doing something with the car stereo, and wasn't paying attention - hence no brakes before impact.
She's a lucky girl that airbags and seatbelt did their job.
I hope she learns from this.
What's most annoying about all of this for me is that the bike rack on the back of my son's car is mine - I have had it for a bout 20 years. I have been asking him for days to take it off before it gets rusted to his towbar.
It's covered in MTB-related stickers I have collected over the years (many of which are not likely to be able to be replaced). A small thing, but a lesson in why you should listen to your dad...

I have noticed lately so many people driving past looking down, to their left and not looking at me or anything coming towards them! It is just so out of control now. You have to be on your guard all the time ready to react.
As one does, I have been trying to figure out where a particular photo was taken. It is a news photo of Wairoa flooding I lifted from RNZ so no Exif data and I haven't been able to match it to Google Street view. This is completely unimportant but it bugs me. Can anyone tell me what part of Wairoa this shows, preferably with a street name?
