Her (2013)

Really liked it - solid 8.5/10 - and i don't give 10's : )

nice study in human emotion - insecurity / loneliness / love / loss - played out through a relationship with an OS - also a great commentary on how we live in an increasingly impersonal, disconnected and technology driven world

Joaquin is great - solid character (the boy can act) - and i could well feel what he was feeling

Scarlett - even as just a voice - is damn fine :)

Highly Recommended

Note:

IMDB = 8.2
Metascore = 90

Yeah, I watched this last weekend.
Had low expectations going in but ended up being the best movie I have seen in a long long time.

The Amazing Spiderman 2 - Absolutely brilliant. Probably the second best super hero movie I have seen behind the Avengers. I saw it 3d in Imax and I can't highly enough recommend the experience. I have already pre-ordered the Blu-Ray 9.5/10 just go see it, awesome.

Also just watched Her. Amazing movie, absolutely amazing. It invoked so many emotions that words do not exist to speak of.

Frozen Blu-ray = Even after the kids singing the songs nonstop since the film came out I still rate it 10/10.
21 Jump Street 2012 Blu-ray = 2/10 Just plain awful.
To Kill a Mocking Bird Blu-ray = 8/10 I thought this stayed true to the book and was well made.
Take Shelter DVD = 4/10 a bit odd for me.
The Saint DVD = 8/10 Nice to re watch and enjoyed it.
New Year’s Eve Blu-ray = Almost watchable. 3/10

Mad Men Blu-ray 6/10 just started Season 1 disc 1. Feel sick just watching all the smoking and I cannot connect with the main guy. Great sets and cast though so hopefully it picks up a bit. Just a bit dull after watching Game of Thrones.

It was great to see the Star Wars casting news yesterday. Very excited about it and hopefully they create something we would like to buy on disc (or download).

Grand Budapest Hotel. Typical Wes Anderson style that I enjoy. Got me in the mood to watch The Life Aquatic/Fantastic Mr Fox/The Royal Tenenbaums. 8/10

Wow colour me surprised, I loved it. I thought the Sony product placement was a little extreme. Did you like Avengers?

avengers was a much more coherent film than spiderman 2.

i even liked the first amazing spiderman but #2 did not float my boat.

maybe suffering from superhero film overload ?

this one was bloated to the max with everything but mary jane watson - who's scenes were filmed but cut from the final edit.

poor pacing, too much yakking not enough action - too much peter parker not enough spiderman, and what action there was was spoilt by poor cgi.

then just as it got interesting... down comes the curtain !

:(

oh well, star wars weekend awaits !

I won't watch The Amazing Spider Man (1 or 2), Man of Steel and a few others because I'm sick of Hollywood remakes. It was only a decade ago that they last did Spider man.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - a solid 7/10 for a couple of hours of entertainment.  Anything with Scarlet in it is fine by me ;-)

The Lego Movie:  4/10.  Expected more after all the hype and 5 star reviews from everyone.  Definitely a 'meh' from me, and I normally enjoy this sort of stuff.

Ride Along (2014):  1/10.  Didn't expect much and wasn't disappointed. Predictable, well trodden jokes you can see coming a mile away, and a blatant (albeit stupid) rip off from Bad Boys.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Went to see "Only Lovers Left Alive" at the Penthouse in Brooklyn on Saturday night with my wife.

First things first - Cinema 2 at Penthouse is atrocious.  The seats are possibly worse than airplane seats, the arm rests are pointless because they're waist height, and the cinema screen itself is waaaaay too high on the wall....so unless you're sitting near the back of the cinema you're neck is going to be craned for the whole film.  Hope they sort that out sometime because I do like Penthouse.

The film itself will be an acquired taste for most people.  I really enjoyed it though.  There's a whole lot of subtle references going on that a lot of people won't get, mainly about literary people over the last few hundred years.  Tom Hiddleston is the epitome of cool, and Tilda Swinton looks almost normal - but I do love her in anything so I'm biased there.

As far as the plot - the trailer does nothing to show what the film is about at all - in fact if I had seen the trailer before the film I wouldn't have gone.  It's also touted as a "vampire" film, which couldn't be further from the truth except that some of the characters are vampires.

Really really great, beautifully shot cinema with wildly gorgeous locations and sets - but a feeling of confinement and isolation.  Recommended!

star wars bd - presentation, very good picture, excellent sound 8/10

film 4/10 after all these years the changes luca$ made still suck and suck even more in high definition.

maybe after gorge has gone someone with balls will take out all the special edition sh it and present star wars as it was originally seen.
