neb: Masking tape that protects the paint by tearing along the paint line (i.e. the line of paint the covers the edge of the tape) rather than coming off like it should.

That can happen if the tape is old. Or from the 2$ Shop.
Have been through poor paint experiences with the likes of the above 2. Lesson learnt
A reputable brand should perform as expected

I’ve had some bad luck with masking tape and used something expensive and sealed it back up in sealed bags between uses.

Pull it off too soon and the wet paint will find a way to mark something else as your remove the tape. Pull it off too late and get jagged edges. Push it too hard onto the surface and it damages the surface. Don’t push it too hard and some paint will find its way underneath.

I learnt not to use it. Make the brush push a bead of paint up to and along where it’s needed.

It also seems to vary based on what it's applied to, I used the same tape on the trim in the laundry and it worked pretty well with only a few minor tears, while the current use on H3 pine is tearing more often than not.

Having had a cellular Apple Watch for nearly a year now and still having to lug my iPhone everywhere because there's no wearables cellular service with my carrier...I am looking at you 2Degrees!

Yes - I know there's a whole thread dedicated to this. Doesn't make it any less annoying.

Reolink security cameras come with free cloud storage .

Except, every month the cloud plan expires and you get an email saying you need to renew the plan. It is only a matter of time they attach a price to the 'free cloud storage'.

If it's free, it's only free till they get people hooked on it enough to pay. Alternatively, it's free, because YOU are the product.

I have this as well. It's frustrating it can't just automatically renew instead of emailing you and asking you to login to manually renew it every month.

Edit: Haha, as if on cue my email to renew arrived 5 minutes after posting!

I solved that problem by having the Reolink cameras recording to my NAS which is backed up to BackBlaze.  But already had the NAS and cloud backup before I got the Reolink cameras.

You have no idea how technology illiterate GPs are... many of the older ones still rely on paper records

They are also grossly under resourced so frills is out of the question.

Actually, I've had a bit to do with GPs and technology. In my region, they've all been using electronic patient management systems for over a decade. I imagine that there might be a tiny few in the country still reliant on paper, but nowadays you couldn't run an efficient GP practice without one. Most GPs nowadays have a practice manager who looks after this kind of thing.

I don't see it as a frill. Not having some kind of queueing time indicator says that the GP's time is vastly more valuable than the patients', so it's OK to make a patient wait an hour for a 10 minute appointment. And, who knows, it might lead to a more efficient practice.

The recent changes to YouTube layout and algorithm. And while I'm on it - the proliferation of the "video essay" format, where people with barely superficial knowledge of a topic are sharing their thoughts on it with gravitas in their voice that is intended to mask the mundane nonsense they're spewing.

johno1234: I don't often watch it but happened to the other day. It was surprisingly poor. Have heard more insightful comments at the pub.

You’d think that people paid to comment on something would have a basic understanding of the process they are commenting about.

Stil it’s the same on here as well. Lots of opinions no understanding.

That it took so long for Western Digital to come out with expansion storage for the Xbox and predictably it's 1/3 the price of buying it from Microsoft. It took them so long, I couldn't wait and so I paid 2/3 more for something that should have been available shortly after release.

I imagine that the delay wasn't on WD's side either. MS would have been insistent on gouging for the first few years.

This piece of insufferable rent-seeking which removes the exhaustion doctrine / first sale doctrine, circa 50,000BC, from artworks so artists or their families get to collect royalties every time the same item is re-sold, apparently in perpetuity [*]. I wonder if Father Neb can collect the same royalty every time a house he built is re-sold, or my friend's mechanic son gets a royalty every time a car he worked on at some point in the past is re-sold?

Oh, and anyone want to bet that the cost of collection of this rent will be 300% of the amount taken in?

[*] I know that France has their historical droit de suite, but they also have a pile of other stuff of which a lot is equally irrelevant today.
