Yes. I have a site with a couple of hundred pages and some aren't to be available for search. Google Search Console helpfully says it's an "issue".

On the subject of non-visible pages, and I have no idea how this would work because it's just a thought, but sometimes it'd be useful to have topics or threads that aren't indexed by Google or visible to non-logged-on users, one example being the Annoy thread where you could complain about organisations or clients without having to worry about said groups recognising themselves in the description. Is something like this possible/feasible/desirable?

When you start a time sensitive task that needs to be done, get a phone call or other that interrupts your work flow to the point of forgetting the task, going out for lunch then getting back realising that task should have been done hours ago.

That the Kindle Scribe, a potentially revolutionary, class leading device, is hampered by a lack of features, promised to be addressed by regular updates, that hasn't had an update since May!

Windows.

How difficult can it be for a PC to find a laptop on the same network in the same house.

Oh sorry the troubleshooter can see/find it but it can't actually communicate with it and can't even say maybe try this or this...

I have a small program you can download from virusbucket.ru that will find and access every PC in the house. Runs invisibly in the background, you won't even know it's there.

Maybe Microsoft should hire them.

Two things have annoyed me greatly today.

  1. The insurance company. Underwriter approved temp accommodation so arranged to have payment made to us, so we could work with the accommodation provider directly.

    • This was last week. As I know what the insurers are like, I called them on Friday to ask when payment would be made and to conform bank account details.
    • Monday - still no payment received.
    • Tuesday - called to ask what the heck is going on - told that payment was authorised on Monday and we should receive it "tonight"
    • Wednesday - still no payment - accommodation provider now asking whether we still want to rent the property as they have other people who want it and it's not locked in until it's paid for
    • Call insurance company again - put on hold while they look into it. Payment has been authorised this morning. Will receive funds today or tomorrow.
    • I went off my head and told then I am sick of being lied to and want payment today or we'll lose the temp accommodation and that'll be on them
    • Told payment takes anywhere between 3-5 days. I work in payments - I know this to be false. I say as much
    • I am then told payment will be made today
    • I ask why payment wasn't made when it was "authorised and released" on Friday. "Oh, that's only one part of the process"
    • We're talking $17k - it's not an insignificant sum. We can't just magic it up from our savings - we have other commitments and I can't guarantee that we'll be paid in time by the insurers to meet our other obligations
  2. ACC. Called re my son's recent accident to see why he hasn't started to receive compensation

    • Spent 20 min on hold before being spoken to by a nice chap who after 25 min was unable to help, as it's not technically his area (I used the correct sequence of button presses to get to the right dept)
    • I am put on hold to speak to someone who can help
    • Finally (after over an hour) I get another really nice bloke who looks into the issue
    • Seems that the medical certificate supplied by the hospital doesn't align with the dates of the accident etc
    • Were they going to tell me? Apparently no - they were waiting for my call
    • Have to call hospital and have a new medical cert sent - they'll send it directly to ACC - I have no idea if they'll receive it and action it or not
    • I'll probably have to call them again tomorrow
    • Despite the claim application going in on 6th August, they'll only start actioning the claim properly once they receive the paperwork, so my son won't be starting to receive his compensation until next week sometime (several weeks after he was declared unfit for work)
    • The only real upsides: We have ACC in NZ and the people I was dealing with were pleasant and understood how frustrating the whole process is.

I have a friend who whenever I moan about anything, reminds me that there’s always something that’s a lot worse and to count blessings.

What a rubbish time you and the family are having Handsomedan. It must be difficult to keep enough sanity to deal with it all. Let’s hope by Christmas and summer all will be a distant memory.

Bright side?
Summer is coming and we'll be in a freshly renovated house before Christmas and can finally relax.

Also - our temp accommodation has turned out to be a mansion by the beach, so we can't really complain!!

This used to be a common problem back in the windows 7 days, but, I find network discovery works pretty well these days.

If you're running windows machines, check that the network profile is set to private. It defaults to public when installing windows, which is probably a good idea for the 95% of people who don't really know what settings they should use.

Of course, there's a million other reasons why network discovery might fail.
