Inflation is what they have in Argentina. Or when in the 90s when I lived in Brazil and our salaries would be adjusted every month to match inflation.
Here? Nope. Prices go up, but salaries don't adjust every month. Companies - banks, airlines, supermarkets - complain about salaries but post record profits every quarter.
It's pure greed now.
Reminds me of when we were in Turkey in the 90's and their currency was in freefall - so much so that when we were in the Grand Bazaar 3 weeks after first being there we were able to buy things for the same amount of Turkish Lira, which was a tenth of the price in GBP. The locals simply couldn't keep up with the rapid decline in the value of the Lira so just kept prices the same until they eventually had to buy new stock from overseas.
I think I got some Levis 501's for $3GBP at the time. They were an outrageous $11GBP when we first arrived.
All this has happened before, all this will happen again
Many restaurants in Türkiye now have laminated menus so they can change their pricing weekly with marker pens. In late 2021 we paid around 35 lira for a pint in Istanbul, when we were in Antalya a few weeks ago it was mostly 100 lira. The currency collapse has absorbed some of it for tourists but it's terrible for locals.
