It's an example of "trickle down" not working.

Yep, less trickle downwards and more flood upwards...

That this cloudflare wants me to check that I'm not a bot every time I log in to GZ. If I were really a bot, I would take a completely different approach. At least I don't have to click on captchas all the time. 😆
- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT: thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D: two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter

Or, check your spam folder. I don't have one!

It's not Cloudflare who wants to check, it's me. Geekzone serve a few thousands pages a day and we have some rules in place to filter out spam traffic, traffic from sanctioned countries, etc
For example, this is blocking countries currently sanctioned by the New Zealand government:
We already let known bots (Google, Bing and others) go through anyway:
Down the rules list we block based on a lot of different things. To prevent spam in our contact forms and to prevent credential stuffing I put that automatic test before login. And because there's a lot of other automated traffic (scrappers, SEO crawlers and other stuff) that I do not want I put another challenge on some hostnames.
You can see only 10.79% of traffic passed the general challenge yesterday and 58.62% passed the login/register/contact forms challenge. This means the rest of those requests were from bots. Why waste server time on crap? I am paying the bills, so I rather not...
This is what a day looks like (providing no DDoS or other events happen):

Well, duh. For any employer, an employee who has the "I'm lucky to be employed" attitude will be compliant and unable to negotiate effectively... the power imbalance will be maximised. They will not be likely to leave, will work extra hours unpaid, won't be asking for pay rises, even if inflation has eaten into their purchasing power, won't complain about bullying or other bad behaviour, will try not to use their sick leave.
Why wouldn't an employer want every one of their employees to be like that?

I know, it’s in the dashboard of your account(s) and I can understand your intention to save resources BEFORE the login. Just diverting the suspicious traffic and entertaining them would also require resources. That is probably unavoidable under the circumstances.
Thank you for the insight you have given us to explain.

"But later, Mr Gurner said in a post on LinkedIn that he had "made some remarks about unemployment and productivity in Australia that I deeply regret and were wrong"."
Nah, he just regrets that he got caught out looking like a dickhead. He's said similar out of touch things in the past, so this is obviously how he truly feels. No amount of PR-curated apology can convince me otherwise.
msukiwi:Found a Steering Wheel lock on the berm outside, reviewed video footage. Got a reg plate, checked, stolen!
Contacted 105. Advised to retrieve the lock carefully and secure. Advised I have video etc.
24 hours later = NOTHING!
And FOUR DAYS LATER and one Online reminder to them.....STILL NOTHING!
How long do they expect me to hold onto it?
msukiwi:until you take it in to a police station yourself where you’ll be told nah just throw it out.msukiwi:Found a Steering Wheel lock on the berm outside, reviewed video footage. that ship has sailed. throw it out, police will do nothing about it.
Hearing a clattering outside yesterday morning, checking what debris was flying past my house and seeing a chunk of clearlight roofing material.
First thought: Wonder who has that around here?
Second thought: Oh, I have some clear strips on my garage roof for letting in more light.
rushes outside to check
Third thought: Guess I get to pretend to be a roofer in a storm now.
Luckily contained to a small 0.5m2 section that somehow broke out. Possibly an impact from other flying debris (or a meteorite as suggested by my sister).
Luckily I had a leftover length of corrugated iron roofing and a box of roofing screws.
Temporary patch in place until I get time and suitable weather to replace that length of roofing properly.
