I thought my normal insurance that costs me over 3k would be sufficient to cover us while re-roofing but no. Beware people when you get doors, windows, roofs replaced, your insurance doesn’t cover damage that may happen while it’s open to elements. You need Limited Contract Works Insurance.

Yup. Also check with the builder since they may have their own insurance which may cover it, but otherwise you definitely need contract works insurance.

Having said that, the figure you've been quoted is pretty outrageous, I don't think we paid that for the entire Casa de Cowboy redo and that was something like 2 years.

So I’m thinking insurance for 14 days while reroofing will be tops $200ish, nope $608 is the quote, and they make sure there isn’t any risk to them whatsoever before they will offer it and now am told by roofer I should extend it for even longer in case.

Glad we didn't have any issues when we had our gutters done - I wasn't aware of any of this and we had our roofspace exposed for weeks while they ripperd the gutters and fascias off and replaced them after a lengthy delay due to foul weather.
We had nice big gaps all around the edges of our house.

kingdragonfly: Maybe an Aussie can provide some thoughts.

CBS News: Australian spy chief under pressure to name "traitor" politician accused of working with spies of foreign regime...

A follow up: It's likely to be Chinese spies.

An Australian show called "The Weekly with Charlie Pickering" discussing it.

Conservative Australian politicians don't seem to be upset by China targeting Australia.

They're very upset that names haven't been named. Many are throwing around the phrase "besmirched my/our reputation."

As long as they have their priorities straight. 🙄

All finalised just in time this afternoon before they start the job. They took a $100 off after I complained that they had kept me stressing about this for a month with emails back and forth until the last minute on a Friday. Roofer only has public liability insurance.

It's been a real learning curve because most people wouldn’t know they need it and would only find out they weren’t covered when hell happened. One of the questions was did I know of anything that would cause a risk to the job and they read out a long screed of possibilities including streams, rivers, wind. Had to answer wind…this is Wellington I told them.

Which insurer are you with? It's been a few years now but I remember it as being relatively painless, we just tacked it onto the side of the regular home insurance with State.

I'd also never heard of it before starting the build, and I don't think the builders told me about it, possibly it was on some info sheet attached to the annual State renewal paperwork.

Bluebird Chips promoting Rebel Moon on Netflix. It's not a kids movie at all

It didn't look like one in the first 30 minutes that's for sure. It's more like a "turn it off when kids come in the room" movie.

Seeing the packet and doing a double take did remind me I've only managed to watch half of it over a period of months. Plus I see there is a part two movie now. Promotion worked although I have no idea what Bluebird could possibly get out of it. You can tell me I'm mistaken and part two is all about puppies and kittens solving mysteries.

The Zack Snyder movies have been panned by critics. The second movie is subtitled "scar giver."

21% -- Rotten Tomatoes
31% -- Metacritic
5.6/10 -- IMDb

I expect Bluebird gets a relatively tiny amount of advertising money.

Maybe none if it was sold to Bluebird as just like riding the "Star Wars" merchandising wave.

Warning: rough language

Arrived Sydney airport.

Presented with machines that you queue for, that then read passport, give you paper ticket. Then queue for e-gate into which you post the paper ticket the last machine gave you.

What the actual is the point of the two step system?! Every other e-gate I’ve used all over the world only requires a single step.

I can’t see any point to the Australian setup. Does anyone know why it’s done that way?

we paid $962.44 for 4 months worth of building for a new garage to the value of $140k

$608 does seem outrageous

Ours (NZ) used to do that too.  But we upgraded some years ago to the one step models.

This is not a politics discussion.

Taxpayers to fork out $800k for Jacinda Ardern doco | Stuff

Taxpayers to fork out $800k for Jacinda Ardern documentary

The New Zealand Film Commission is putting $800,000 towards a documentary about former Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern.

In a statement the Film Commission said the documentary explores the rise of violent extremism and online hate in New Zealand, while covering Dame Jacinda's leadership.

The commission said the documentary was not authorised nor endorsed by Dame Jacinda, and she has no editorial involvement.

"It is important to note this is not a biopic. Rather, the documentary explores the rise of violent extremism and online hate in New Zealand, following Jacinda Ardern's leadership trajectory as an example of how these forces played out through one of the most tumultuous periods in modern times.

The documentary doesn't sound like "Jacinda Ardern doco" if you read the article it clearly says "Rather, the documentary explores the rise of violent extremism and online hate in New Zealand".

But hey, let's make some clickbait headline.

More than just clickbait. To me it comes across as a partisan headline calculated to stir up anti-Jacinda rage. Very unprofessional, if this is supposed to be a media outlet.

You put yourself in the position of a reporter who is an employee.
Boss says you perform or else, bottom line is marginal, thats about clicks

Ok you may think I'll go elsewhere, but where is there to go with skills in writing you have developed?
Possibly not many places, especially with so many of your compatriots on the market at the same time.
So you knuckle down and deliver what management demand.

Consumers get what will pay, something to rage click.

Barring a different economic signal to management and stakeholders that supports a different path.

I don't wonder about anything anymore, I just watch and make sure I don't get caught between the lines when they tear each other apart. And that's what they call social networking. The day before yesterday, there were nationwide "home visits" by the special police unit to internet hate speakers, which definitely ended in arrests. What's wrong with society?
