All in the space of a month......sigh
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

AA Insurance just sent me a detailed email with multiple reasons why they are about to hike my insurances! I haven't seen my new premiums yet, but I'm picking it is going to be a doozy of a hike! Like everything else...
Tower seems to be just as bad. Shouldn't the premium on my car be decreasing as it ages?
Someone has to pay for the Auckland and Hawkes Bay floods. I've seen a few flood-damaged motorbikes on TradeMe... I assume there must be quite a few cars as well.

No, Insurance is based on risk. Whether your car is brand new or 10yrs old doesn't matter if you run a red light and T-bone a Ferrari.

A few years ago, I witnessed something whilst in the US on holiday, on the construction site of a relatively tall building on a windy day. Three guys were putting glass into windows, and something happened and they dropped/let go of a sheet of it. It started plummeting down, then the wind got it, and it sailed across about 30-40m and smacked into the building opposite. It was sheer luck that no-one was injured. It was quite surreal. The noise it made wasn't anything on the amount of noise the foreman made yelling at these three guys. Police were called. It was quite the drama.
Can imagine.
There was an amount of care being taken to stay on the upwind side of the loose sheets and screw them down starting from that side. If it had gotten picked up there was no way I'd be trying to stop it, just watch where it landed so I could go get it and try again. Learned a few personal safety things from my time in a rescue team.

I find it difficult to believe that the risk I would do such a thing has increased by 41.3% in two years.

"Risk" in insurance covers not only the chance of a thing happening, but the potential cost of fixing the result. That part in particular has gone up massively.

Apologies for any confusion. They're screensnips from four different bills I've received. (Contact, AMI, Porirua Waste and Sky respectively.)

Aha! I was trying to figure out why in the world a power company was passing waste charges onto the customer in plain sight!

I think it was a 49% increase in my Contents Insurance this year - staggering; but I guess that's the price we're all going to pay due to weather-related events....

Contents is perhaps a little different from construction, but having dealt with insurers recently on unrelated matters, I don't believe it's appropriate to blame weather-related events. The problem is how they conduct assessments and repairs, allowing a third party to do both and paying them a fixed rate per item on their list. It's in the best interest of those companies to add on as many charges as possible, then avoid doing as much of the work as possible, using the cheapest (unqualified) sub-contractors they can find.
We had a wall that had wallpaper that was previously painted over. They included costs for stripping and reinstating wallpaper, preparing walls for painting and repainting. Gib to be replaced to the first nog/dwang just patched (poorly) with a bit of plaster. The work was shoddy and almost all of it got ripped out and redone in the end.

Same. I gave them a call and upped the excess from $250 to $500 which dropped the premium by about $250. If I don't have to make a claim I'm winning, one claim I'll break even, more than one claim I start losing.
