Same.  I gave them a call and upped the excess from $250 to $500 which dropped the premium by about $250.  If I don't have to make a claim I'm winning, one claim I'll break even, more than one claim I start losing.

I assume you are taking into account both the Excess, AND your increase in premiums from each subsequent claim?

I think it was a 49% increase in my Contents Insurance this year - staggering; but I guess that's the price we're all going to pay due to weather-related events....

Contents is perhaps a little different from construction, but having dealt with insurers recently on unrelated matters, I don't believe it's appropriate to blame weather-related events. The problem is how they conduct assessments and repairs, allowing a third party to do both and paying them a fixed rate per item on their list. It's in the best interest of those companies to add on as many charges as possible, then avoid doing as much of the work as possible, using the cheapest (unqualified) sub-contractors they can find.

We had a wall that had wallpaper that was previously painted over. They included costs for stripping and reinstating wallpaper, preparing walls for painting and repainting. Gib to be replaced to the first nog/dwang just patched (poorly) with a bit of plaster. The work was shoddy and almost all of it got ripped out and redone in the end.

All sounds alarmingly familiar.
We're about to start round 3 of the same repairs that have been "ongoing" for the last 18 months+ in a couple of weeks' time
I'm dreading the fight after it's completed.

We had a claim on some damage to a kitchen tap (long story). I'm not sure I was meant to get a copy of the report with the costings, but insurance company paid something like $2000 for the claim to be assessed, to then give a $400-$500 payout. From what I could tell the assessment involved looking at photos I sent, and then contacting a supplier to get the cost of a replacement.

Not quite sure which self entitled you're referring to, the convicted thugs or the defence lawyers. I think any lawyer prepared to argue that 2 punches are no big deal should be thumped once and asked if they still want the second before they continue.

Handle9: How dare the lawyers do their job.

The media need to learn to shut up and focus on the relative lack of performance of the justice system, not criminals using any means possible within the system to lessen the severity of their crime or sentence.

It's a bit like the provocation defence for murder, which was removed after the media made a big song and dance about someone trying, unsuccessfully, to use the defence. The defence existed for a reason, yet is now unavailable to those who may have had a genuine need for its application in their case.

What really bugs me is that ordinary people have to try and work out which colours are now not okay to wear in what areas, in case they offend some small-dick-energy gang members.
Can I wear my favourite red hat or blue sneakers or yellow t-shirt, when I go out now?
Am I stuck with muted greys and blacks for my entire wardrobe because these "people" with such fragile egos can't control themselves?

There was a very controversial sheriff in Arizona, Joe Arpaio, who made the convicts wear pink in his hard-labour jail.
