AND after 5 days after Guy Fawkes(or what ever it is in Aus) fireworks become illegal explosives and have heavy fines.

I don't agree with making possession illegal, but I am certainly in favour of a ban on their use at other times of the year. It should be November 5th only, with reasonable allowance for bad weather. This would also mean removing the section of the regulation that allows them to be sold at other times of the year for cultural celebrations. I'm not sure if this has ever been used.

This year will be particularly bad with Diwali falling on November 12. Those who think having fireworks for Matariki is a good idea should also think again. Most harm from fireworks occurs outside of the Guy Fawkes period, when people are using fireworks for other celebrations. It now being a public holiday means people are more likely to get together for social activities, including drinking. Mixing alcohol and fireworks is not a good idea.

Good luck banning it for cultural reasons lol.
You'd have a better chance of convincing scientists the moon is made of cheese.

Minor Networking Annoyance but my rentals Star Wiring setup. There’s 3 termination points in the lounge for connection to the ONT but none in any of the bedrooms. Whats the point of the install? 😭

I'm referring to a section 7 of the Hazardous Substances (Fireworks) Regulations 2001, which specifically relates to the sale of fireworks outside of the November 2-5 sales period. If we were to go down the path of restricting use (or possession as previously suggested), then this section would obviously need to go.

I'm not suggesting banning fireworks for cultural celebrations, in fact, I want to make it easier to hold public (or private) displays.

Diwali and Matariki both suit colourful drone displays. Let's leave the fireworks for celebrating someone's failure to blow up a foreign parliament, or to scare off evil spirits at the start of a new year.

Garmin wanting 3 activities showing the failed HR monitor chest strap.  As I explained to them, what is the point of taking a dead unit out on a run when I know it's dead before I even leave the house?

I also had a faulty HRM Pro. I had to take screenshots from Garmin connect of 3 different activities showing the frequent disconnects that I was experiencing mid activity before they would refund me. Ended up switching to a Polar HRM strap.

AliExpress is the same. I had a refund declined because I gave them the seller's photo of a bunch of LEDs that weren't illuminated. I apparently needed to include a photo of my actual LEDs actually not working.

That seems entirely reasonable.

If it was my first dead unit, I might have made the effort to go get more data.  This one is a replacement that I only had for 3 weeks before it died.  The previous one I'd tried a few times with it dying mid run.  This one connects but refuses to send HR data at all, so why would I take it on a run?  If they get insistent, I might wear it for strength training, or a walk activity that I don't care about the HR data for but I do care about HR zones on my runs or rides since I train in the various zones.  Can't do that if I don't have the HR data obviously.

It is tempting to switch to a Polar sensor if Garmin gets difficult about it.

It’s seemingly impossible to get both kids to school at the same time. It’s been a shitty run the last few weeks.

Insurance claims and trades people and project managers. Everything is in our garage, tape and plastic on everything. No contact and no action in 5 days despite 4 calls to ask what's happening.

Somewhere between amused and annoyed. I've spent a bit of time in the ceiling recently, installing cables and sorting out a PoE extender that failed after the last power cut. Access to the ceiling is via a manhole in the garage, with the garage door opener spanning the hole. This morning, I went to put the cover back on and discovered that the garage door opener on one side is only attached to the manhole frame. It's only been installed for about 13 years, but relying on a thin bit of wood attached with a few small nails through it and a piece of Gib, doesn't seem like a sound idea. Fortunately, there is another screw hole I can use a few cm over, which will secure it into something solid.

I've now had three identical text messages from somewhere. I don't think they're technically spam, but rather it seems that someone has signed up to something with my phone number. I sent back "STOP" after the second one, but got a third today.

The messages have no detail about the name of the company or anything, and with the unsubscribe feature not working I decided to forward the message to 7726 (anti-spam) and get them to look at it. But it's been quite some time since I last did that, and the process has changed: it no longer provides any means to leave comments or otherwise explain why you're reporting the message, so I don't have any confidence that anything's going to happen.
