As a freelance interpreter, I love the remote networking feature. I never know where I will be from day to day, and run my office from home. The ability to network between my various storage devices, would make my business admin run alot smoother. I also like the fact that the gen-8 is user-friendly for a tech-noob like me!
With a teenage son with aspirations of becoming a games designer, and an extensive home network, I can see this becoming an integral part of our setup.

For such a small size, this Gen8 would be adequate for my network backup needs. Furthermore, with the iLO feature, I don't need to be there to manage it.

Size is good - Easily fits under a desk.

Comes with Server 2012 Essentials - easy to setup and run for an SME.

Of the many appealing features, (eg: form factor, USB 3 support, PCIe x16 expansion port, ILO,) I think the most appealing is that it's a a fully-featured system running Server 2012 Essentials rather than some feature-nerfed and potentially quirky software with no community support.

With one of these, I'd be able to replace my current NAS box (a noisy ex-gaming C2D tower still with HD4850) and finally have one that I didn't feel guilty about leaving on 24/7. As a bonus, I'd even be able to hide it away in the cupboard with the router to keep it out of sight and ear.

The switch would also come in handy, a I'd be able to replace my current 5-port one which I'm using for 6 devices (with which have to keep swapping plugs depending on which I'm using at the time.)

I have a lot of software disk ISOs and file backups on my temporary NAS (made from an old Core 2 Quad) and something like this would be an awesome way to replace it with a more compact and efficient setup :)

The design is very nice, and the USB3 support would be great for adding additional temporary storage for taking files elsewhere.

As for the switch, I still have some 100mbit switches running, so it would be a great upgrade.

I'm going to have to go with "Small, quiet, energy efficient, and can be placed anywhere." because I want to run a media server at home however I find my current solution of using an old Asus eee Netbook is loud. I find I have to turn it off at night or it keeps me awake, should I be lucky enough to win this not only can I expand the storage but leave it on all night (based on our HP Server at work being quiet as)

I'd love to replace my NAS box, webserver, and WHS box with this one server. Throw ESXi on it, virtualize, and combine all of the functionality into one. Save on the electric bill, and it's good for the environment too!
