Personally, I think they're bollox as they simply introduce confusion - no-one seems to know who has right-of-way, and either party can get quite peeved when the other doesn't give way! I don't think roads are the place to test out such ambiguity.
Speaking of crossings that are bollox...
I shake my head every time I have to negotiate this roundabout. The poor placement of pedestrian crossings at each roundabout exit (bar one) are an accident waiting to happen.

On a more serious note, Drivers who stay in the main lane until the last minute when turning right even when there is a clearly marked
turning bay ( the one with diagonal white stripes ) holding up everyone behind them.
