And now some large cuts announced at TVNZ:
Hard to know how public broadcasting can be saved. In the above article it is suggested a $5 per capita per month levy would fund TVNZ. However I don't really like much of anything on TVNZ and for that $25 from our household could fund a couple of streaming services - say Netflix and YT Premium. If I had to chose I would go with the latter.
Regarding the cuts.
1) I am not in the media space, but I would have thought more people watched Fair Go and Sunday than the 6am Breakfast program. Four people to talk absolute rubbish is why TVNZ is incompetent. I, switched to Three simply because I couldn't bear some of the presenters on Breakfast. Three is not great but I prefer the presenters.
2) If I could, I would change the order of the TVNZ 6pm news to: NZ News, World News, Weather, Good Sorts (when on) and finally Sport. Sport seems to get more time allocated to it than World News. 30 minutes should be plenty of time. Of course, it won't be as the adverts will eat up a good chunk of time. Wild idea - 30 minutes of TV ad free. Then back to the reality TV rubbish.
3) I believe Q&A (Sunday) on TVNZ is now the only program asking the hard questions to politicians. Jack Tame is a rottweiler trying to get questions answered. Even he has to give up sometimes.
