Bung: The work will probably drag on until Easter.

Which Easter?

The works on the Waikato expressway between Te Rapa and Taupiri were originally slated to be completed last March now not expected to be completed till 2025. Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about dragging the job out.

You'd think PayPal, of all places, would be able to make a website that actually works.

  • Three days ago I got an email saying I'd received some money. It said it may take a few minutes to show in my account.
  • Today I just went to make a payment, and noticed that the money hadn't actually gone in.
  • I found that I need to click on "get details" in the email before it actually credits the money. I suppose this is to ensure that it's going into the right account, but the email doesn't make that clear.
  • Now the really strange bit: the money is now in my account, but the account history shows it as actually having gone in three days ago!

It's not a real annoyance as it was easy enough to sort out, but you'd think they could make the history actually mesh with reality.

Edit: I need to retract - or at least modify - this annoyance. For "bullet 2" above, the number showing next to "Use your PayPal balance" was actually the value of the thing I was buying, not the account balance. So the money had gone in after all.

Ge0rge: I'm sure it's been said before, but the lower speed limit isn't just to protect the workers - it also allows the new seal / chip etc to "bed in" by having traffic drive over it slowly.

I understand that, but in the example I referred to there is no new seal or chip. No works have even been started - except for putting up signs limiting the speed.

People smoking/vaping on the beach, or in general, any other crowded area.

It is annoying. How can people be so unthinking and inconsiderate as to blow out clouds of chemicals that waft over others.

At least it's not as stinky and cloying as cigarette smoke.

I rely on RNZ website for NZ news headlines. I am getting really annoyed by their extensive and increasing use of stock photos for illustrations. I am still old enough to remember when journalists worked for newspapers, and they actually went out to cover news stories. If there was an accident, you saw a picture of the accident, not a reversed file photo from America. A crime scene report came with a crime scene photo, not a generic police car picture.

It also annoys me that our TV news sends wannabe apprentice reporters out to stand in front of a scene where something happened half a day ago. These are all cheap tricks that add nothing to real news gathering. Either report the news honestly, or admit you don't know how! Quit bullshitting people!

Of course, there also seems to be some stupid policy that every article must have a photo. Obviously that results in just finding something "OK", instead of just publishing without one.

Or actually going to the scene of the crime/accident/whatever and taking a photo of it! That's what they used to do.

Speakers at the beach.

We went for a walk in Browns Bay last night and we thought there was live entertainment on somewhere as the sound was loud, but had that distinct “live” sound to it.

Turned out a large family/group were parked up with a tent etc with the largest portable speaker I have ever seen (easily 1-1.5m tall) playing a live album of some sort for everyone’s enjoyment. Didn’t take long for the music to change to something less lo key and suddenly the whole of Browns Bay was listening to something more obnoxious.

I’m sure that someone may have said something to them if they weren’t a large group, but it’s so selfish to subject everyone in a multi-kilometre radius to your idea of entertainment.

People who ask why I don't drink alcohol. I've never understood why it's inconceivable to so many people.

Funny, I was just browsing Reddit and the LPT (Life Pro Tips) subreddit had a post along the lines of "Someone saying no to a drink is not an invitation for you to ask why."

Mr E doesn’t drink anymore for reasons of kidney issues and it’s irritating having to constantly insist no to alcohol and then being told to have a beer with alcohol instead. He stopped going to a club he enjoyed because of the constant pressure as everyone was drinking jugs after a game.
