The fact that you need a passport valid for 6 months to undertake a trip of 2 weeks which you will return from with 5 months still to run on your passport.

Agree totally. Surely a passport is either expired or not. If it's not expired, it's valid. What difference 6 months makes is unclear to me.... why 6 months and not 12 months or 4 years? When 10-year passports reappeared, suddenly the useful term went from 4.5 years to 9.5 years... why are 4.6-year-old passports less valid if they were issued for a term of 5 years?

Those assumptions from some:

- everyone has online banking. I don't!

- everyone has smartphone and check emails as they arrive live! No! I don't. I check emails once a day on my PC!

- everyone on free minutes call plan and will return your dropped call! No, I don't. I am still on one of the first prepay plans and spend $20 p.a. on my mobile. Call me if you need me - I will not call you!

That's chrome not youtube. It suspends some but not all background tabs from doing things, so they are basically frozen and then have to catch up when you bring them to the front. It also kills tweetdeck, stops many forums from notifying you of posts (not facebook for some reason) and all sorts of other stupid behaviour with the goal of making battery last longer for people that are on that, and use less ram for people that dont have enough.

What also annoys me is constantly telling me that a whole lot of tabs have crashed because there was not enough memory when I have 32 or 64 in my computers and it was barely using more than 8 at the time there was "not enough"

MikeB4: We were in the Wairarapa on Saturday looking at property, my wife passed a car doing around 80kmh on a fine day. Couple of minutes later the plonker passed us and immediately slowed to 80kmh. We decided not to play his childish game and stopped for coffee in Martinborough. Hate drivers who view the road as their sandpit.

Wairarapa is good for that... I had someone tailgating my truck, and I mean I couldn't see them in my mirrors and when I could they were 3 feet behind me, so I sped up (nowhere to move over due to narrow winding road to Mt Bruce) and they called the company and complained I was doing 96!!!!! I was trying to do them a favour until I could move over, FFS!

Tradesmen who park up a driveway only barely clearing the roadway and completely blocking the footpath and there are NO cars parked for 50 metres on either side of the street.

The affected footpath is used by people with walkers and electric wheelchairs etc throughout the day!

That is a particular beef for me.

I drove over from Wellington a couple of days ago.

I was followed by a perfectly civilised driver at a reasonable and sensible distance. Behind him was another car - some shonky old red jalopy that should have been scrapped a decade ago. We were doing 90-95 in gusty conditions, which was a reasonable and safe speed.

The red car ignored two safe passing places with passing lanes despite exhibiting typical "angry kiwi driver" behaviour.

10 minutes later, he passed the car behind me into the face of an oncoming vehicle which had to take evasive action. He then passed me when there were double solid yellow lines.

I beeped him to warn him that he was effectively attempting to commit suicide - so he gave me a one fingered salute.

Yesterday, I read that the penalty for being caught crossing double yellow lines when overtaking is....$150. Less than I spend on food in a week. Pathetic.

Quite.

Logically, even if my passport expires 2 weeks before I leave a country to return home, there is no reason it should not work in terms of a travel document. Have I changed my identity since arriving? No. Have I somehow invalidated my status as a human being by allowing my passport to expire? No. Have I, in any way, been changed by the expiry date on the document that was valid when I entered a country from the person I was when I arrived? No. Is my lawful right to enter and remain in New Zealand dependant in any way on holding a passport? No.

There is no logic, other than that faux kind beloved by politicians and civil servants, involved.
