Booked a call back from genesis energy. Instead of a person calling you, you get an automated phone call that simply dumps you into a queue.

I had to get a root canal yesterday, an hour under the drill, but my friend had it much worse.

A friend used to live with me, but has moved back home.

He went in to remove three polyps, via a colonoscopy. (I'm guessing three "intrusions")

Unexpectedly he was asked if he had anyone at home to take care of him. He said no.

So they told him he'd have to do it without anesthesia.

What a pain in the arse.

Public service message: a higher proportion of bowel cancer occurs in Māori and Pacific peoples before they reach 60 (approximately 21 percent compared to 10 percent for non-Māori non-Pacific peoples).

As usual, the earlier it's caught, the better the outcome.

Is that genetic or diet?

The usual advice is that a colonoscopy isn't painful. If you want pain get your haemorrhoids sorted.

johno1234: that bowel cancer genetic or diet?

I can't speak to the genetics versus diet.

I found this about African Americans, which may be relevant (or not)

"Colorectal cancer also disproportionately affects the American Black community, where the rates are the highest of any racial/ethnic group in the US.

African Americans are about 20% more likely to get colorectal cancer and about 40% more likely to die from it than most other groups.

The reasons for the differences are complex, but they largely reflect differences in risk factors and in health care access, both of which are related to socioeconomic status.

In fact, African Americans are disproportionately burdened by cancer in general.

They often experience greater obstacles to cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survival, including systemic racial disparities that are complex and go beyond the obvious connection to cancer.

These obstacles can include lower paying jobs and lack of (or less comprehensive) health insurance, lack of access to healthy and affordable foods, low-quality education and housing, and unsafe environments."

Ah I don't know about that. I'm about to have my third in three years. First one was fine, pretty out of it until he woke me up to show me something on the screen, I had no idea I was awake! Second one much more uncomfortable as for some reason he used less anesthesia and I seemed more awake. He said he would crank it up for the one the following year.

Skinny and the hoops you have to jump through to change an email address.

Cant do it yourself online, could take 24-48 hours, have to re register your account and any linked accounts, logged out to test the login worked, nope doesnt work, clear cache, nope, different browser, nope, online chat is useless and slow.

Its a simple email address change, FFS.

Windows.

If I wanted to move some files higher up the folder tree, I'd just drag them to the appropriate layer given in the folder bar thing at the top of Explorer (the one with F > User > Documents > Bills, or whatever). So I want to move stuff from Bills, drag the items to Documents. Done.

Not any more, now I have to open a new window, find the right folder, and drag them over.

Or is it just me ?

I never drag files - too easy to release the mouse button and end up with a bunch of files in the wrong place.

Select, CTRL - X, CTRL - V.

Perfectly reasonable solution, but still its something that worked fine but now doesn't (far as I can tell).

I see Trivago is carpet bombing us again. After being fined $45 million by the Australian government for misleading the consumers it drew to its website with a barrage of lying commercials, it went silent for awhile as it hung its head in the sin bin. I guess they think people have short memories and now they are back, annoying as ever. Whether they are any more honest I can't say.
