I don't mind getting firewood, cutting kindling, lighting the fire, it makes me smile.  Genetic memory?  I don't care.  It changes the entire "feeling" of a room - not sure if that can be measured or why it matters if it could be.  It is what it is.

We get most of the benefits of a Fire with a Pellet Fireplace, but in the end, the continuous cranking of pellet prices, and the issues with how much noise they make as they get older, and the costs of maintenance and repairs, plus the fact a Heatpump cools in summer, made it hard to keep persisting with it.

We just have an old-fashioned wood burner. The fact that all our firewood is free is what keeps us going.

For all their hassles, fires are cozy. And somewhat romantic too.

It's a lot harder to convince your partner that it's a good idea to spread a blanket in front of the heat pump and 'hold hands'.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

The cynic in me wonders how many ISPs will stop offering service in some rural areas.

They can't. They only have the choice of technology in use :-)
No cherry picking.

Listening to Weird Al Yankovic's "It's all about the Pentiums" while at work:

"I've got a flat screen monitor, 40" wide, I believe your's says 'Etch a Sketch' on the side."

Me: sitting in front of dual 24" monitors - hardly a bleeding-edge setup, I know, but still funny to listen realising that what would have been considered ludicrous back in 1999 is not that remarkable in 2021.

And it's still a great song, too.

My guilty pleasure each year is watching Eurovision. It's great to see/hear the crowd this year; I was a bit worried that it was going to be 'dead' this time around.

Now the hard part: Closing the stream and watching it 'properly' tonight on the big screen!

I didn't realise that Eurovision was on. Where does one find it?

Awesome! thanks.

I've always enjoyed this, just for the sheer ridiculousness of some of the entries...Gina G, anyone?
