Seems a little pricey for an hours work and 200ml of mineral oil.

Is it something you'd consider learning to do yourself?  The cost of a brake bleeding kit would pay for itself very quickly at that rate.

Brakes are kind of a big deal, and if I screwed it up, I hate to think what the consequences could be. I am not opposed to trying it, but my FIL who is super into bikes (and does about 20,000KM a year on his bike) didn't want to have a crack and said it was better done by experts).

Ah yep, that's fair enough.  I'm quite happy to do the brakes on my race car, so the bike is basically the same deal from a personal safety point of view.  I'm in the middle of a full replacement of pads and rotors on the bike too.  Just waiting on the pads to arrive.

That no Bike shop has less than a 2 week wait for repairs/maintenance and that bleeding brakes and derailer tuning is going to cost 1/8th of the cost of the Bike itself!

Don't EVO do this even for their most basic service, the $99 one includes "gear tune" and "brake tune" if that's what you're after. The local one, Takapuna, didn't mention anything about delays when I was there a week ago.

They quoted me $40 per brake and $99 for a service of the derailer (needs about 5 minutes of tuning if I had to guess).

Double “Pending Transactions” still sitting on our credit card from Sunday from a family lunch making it look like we were charged twice.

The pay wave initially failed, then my wife tried inserting it and I think there was even a third attempt to get the machine to work. Didn’t help that the machine was sitting up on a high counter making it hard for a height challenged person to check the screen.

Got three receipts - one says “ICC DECLINED”, the other accepted, the third is an invoice receipt.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

On a mountain-bike? First time is the trickiest, but it gets easier. If you ride a lot, or shuttle occasionally you want to do it at least once a year. Funnily enough I have brand new brakes that I haven't put on yet as I'll have to do a hose trim and bleed. And I've not used this brand in a couple of decades so naturally I'll have to check if my numerous bleed kits will fit!

Shimano is probably my favourite brake to bleed. I don't like the two syringe method.

Being unwell. Not seriously, but enough to be distracting and prevent you doing much useful.

Buying a gelato last night and the person serving wore a glove on one hand, then used the gloved hand to scoop the ice cream and the un-gloved hand to hold the cone. Not the first time I've seen similar at food outlets.

The whole glove thing seems like tokenism to me. The gloves aren't changed, and often as not the gloved hand is used to take money from the customer, and/or operate the till, and/or give change.

OTOH (heh!) how many people get food poisoning from ice creams? In the good old days, there were no gloves and no cardboard cone holder or serviette and everyone paid cash. AFAIK, no-one got sick. It seems like it's a solution for a non-problem.

She actually put a new glove on when I ordered, but fair enough. Just thought it seemed a bit futile bothering with the glove at all to just use it to hold the scoop.

Speaking of plastic, I’m really annoyed that “Turners” auctions, replace all the vehicle number plate surrounds with their own logo’s surrounds.

complete waste of plastic….   Ok sure, maybe somtimes it’s to make the old cruddy ones look better that’s ok, even trying to replace questionable ones.

but ultimately…..apart from their marketing team…..who cares.

My Windows 10 PC keeps bugging me about upgrading to Windows 11.

I don't want to register my PC to an email account, because I want privacy even from Microsoft. I also don't like the new Start menu

If I wanted Windows 11, I'd update.

I had to use the Group Policy editor, GPEdit, to shut it up permanently about going to Windows 11.

The whole person that handles the food handles cash thing really annoys me. If they're going to do that they should change gloves after handling cash and dealing with one customer with dirty cash before dealing with the next one. But they dont because gloves cost money.
