Goosey:

Speaking of plastic, I’m really annoyed that “Turners” auctions, replace all the vehicle number plate surrounds with their own logo’s surrounds.

complete waste of plastic….   Ok sure, maybe somtimes it’s to make the old cruddy ones look better that’s ok, even trying to replace questionable ones.

but ultimately…..apart from their marketing team…..who cares.

Their shareholders also would care.

What really annoyed me is when I had my car serviced somewhere and they put a sticker on my car and a new plate surround with the stealerships name on it replacing my no surround on my plate which IMO looks way better than an ugly pointless piece of plastic.

So, my wife works in an important business unit for one of the big banks. She is involved in the development of new features for them. Early last year they had a townhall session where they were told some of backend operations will be sent to offshore. My wife & her team were assured they had nothing to worry about and it would be BAU for them. Fast forward a year, last week, they had a townhall and were informed that the entire technology division for the business unit will be handled from offshore in the next few months. They announced that, the contractors will not be extended any further and the permanent ones will be deployed in other suitable projects across the bank. Worst case, they will be made redundant. Even though they said it is worst case, looks like that has the highest probability of occurrence as the management have already started talking to teams about redundancy packages. My wife already is an over thinker. This is taking a toll on her health as well.

We just crossed an anxious phase with regards to my job and now this. This is just annoying!

Every car I've ever bought from a dealer has come with one of those plastic surrounds and the very first thing I do when I get home is to remove and bin it.

I am sorry you are having to go through this (again!). Financial uncertainty is a horrible feeling, and you have my full sympathy.  I know it's hard not to worry, and it's human nature for sure, but if you don't have control over the situation, then you are best to try and just put your best foot forward and deal with the cards you are dealt, and not worry in the meantime. Good people are still in high demand and lots of businesses are looking to shed staff after over hiring during covid, but are still looking to retain good talent or hire good talent. I am sure that even if the worst case scenario comes up, another opportunity will present itself.

invisibleman18: Buying a gelato last night and the person serving wore a glove on one hand, then used the gloved hand to scoop the ice cream and the un-gloved hand to hold the cone. Not the first time I've seen similar at food outlets.

Someone like Fair Go pointed this out at least ten years ago. OTOH how many people have been killed by infections from ice cream cones? In most food services the preparers are touching the food with their hands without it killing anyone, and given the hygiene requirements for these places you're going to get far more strict compliance with cleanliness requirements than most home food preparation ("someone shoo the cat off the table and we'll make dinner").

What a great opener for a eulogy though: "He only went out for an icecream..."

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

could have had a cut or a plaster on that hand so it prevents the plaster falling off unexpectedly?

Better than having your entire civilisation wiped out by a virulent disease contracted from an unsanitised telephone handset.

Perhaps. I didn't mention there were actually 2 staff who did the exact same thing (the other one serving someone else). It looked like they both put the glove on their dominant hand which they then used to scoop.

The amount of effing roadworks in this country.  Rolleston to Blenheim recently .... 7 hours, with one 15 minute stop.

And they seem to take forever.  SH6 near Blenheim will be under partial closure for five months, to build one roundabout on cross roads.

Then operation will move a few km down the road to build another roundabout, presumably with another 5 months of disruptions.

Interesting, wonder how they will ensure BS11 compliance?

For me it's the amount of disruption compared to years gone by plus the fact that while there's road works on a main road there's also road works on the most logical alternative route. You'd think there would be some joined up thinking when these jobs are planned.

Sorry to hear about this, it sounds exactly like what happened at the NZ bank I worked for except it took almost 3 years between 'town halls'. Three years of infighting, mental stress, not knowing what's going to happen next, chaos, the boss putting in place his (overseas) favourites in my department before starting the restructure. Surely there's some sort of law in place to prevent this sort of torture?

Slow motion watching my Apple Watch fall off the vanity directly face down onto the tiles and knowing what the inevitable result would be.

It’s a stupid design for the screen and now I need to figure out what to replace it with.

Not a straightforward and economic repair to get the screen replaced then?
