neb: The fact that you can buy liquid electrical tape for a little over a dollar on Aliexpress while the same thing here is more like $30-$40. Even the drop shippers on TM overcharge for it.

I buy all my auto electrical consumables, cables, terminals etc from Amazon, Aliexpress etc.    NZ wholesalers/retailers are having laugh with their pricing.  I only buy locally if it's urgent.  Same with a lot of tools.

Fishing consumables and outboards parts are heading the same way for me.  I'm just sick of being reamed.

"We live in an international market " works both ways.

If NZ expects me to pay export prices for food products grown here, I will buy products overseas to also "pay international prices".

The local Travelex in Palmy is pretty much the only place here you can get foreign cash, the banks don't do it.

(No considers what the points of banks is)

Anyway, got notified that the US$ we wanted had arrived, so went into town during my lunch hour, and there were 4 pensioners sitting in a queue waiting for their turn.

Travelex is only open the hours I work, I have to go in there with my passport etc, so no one else can collect it for me.

It has ALWAYS been frustrating to find people who do not work using the lunch hour for their business making it hard for working people to get to services. It feels remarkably like the slow car in front who accelerates in a passing lane.

/rant.

And yes I know about wise, but we want cash when we arrive to pay tips for shuttle services etc.

Something that absolutely drives me up the wall is the way Edge saves form data.

It has suddenly started offering logins that belong to two websites, say x and y.somesite.com as logins for z.somesite.com. I could delete them but I’d actually like those x and y logins saved. I’ve also set it to NOT save logins for z but here we are.

The other is how it collects gibberish data you’ve entered into website forms and it randomly offers it into other websites that are completely irrelevant. Then as you’re typing or entering the data it covers up other parts of the form with suggestions when you need to see all of the page. It makes it super hard for people that aren’t familiar with forms as they might select say a correctly offered mobile number but it fills out other detail in the form with said rubbish - say an address but the website may then reject what Edge has force fed in.

I completely trashed all my saved passwords, synced data and settings in edge at work the other day. What a nightmare getting all that crap fixed.

Still best to use your Wise card in local currency on arrival at an airport ATM. Cash currency converters not only need to make a profit margin but also have a significant cash handling and holding cost to cover as well so their rates are pretty bad.

9 of us going, including 2 under 3, so they sooner we can sort ourselves out at the airport and to the accommodation the better.

The vast majority will be via wise.

When did this change? Last time I wanted foreign cash (admittedly over a year ago) I was able to order it through my bank (WestPac).

I'm annoyed that after nearly 2 years after contracting COVID, my sense of smell is finally properly returning.

For the last couple of years, I haven't been able to smell "unpleasant" smells, like rubbish, faeces, smelly dogs, etc.
I lost my entire sense of smell when I got COVID, but it mostly returned after about 2 months.
I had the ability to smell sweet smells, pleasant smells and in some cases "neutral" smells, but the strong and unpleasant ones were absent from my senses.
That was until a week or so ago. Now, I can smell new smells but they are so strong that they are making me feel unwell. It's like everythnbg has been turned up to 11.
I know that's how it was when my sense of smell returned originally, but at least they were sweet and pleasant smells. Now all I can smell is my dog's arse!

I started my life's journey working in The Fourth Estate namely The Dominion then both The Dominion and Evening Post while studying at Uni and beyond. It saddens me now that in Aotearoa The Fourth Estate is now comprised of gossip blogs, opinion blogs by any Tom, Mary or Bob. Reporting in a style that resembles social media posts where in-depth barely ripples the surface. Media neutrality was the hall mark of journalism, now bias is carried as a badge of honour.

OK now I will go and shout at clouds and curse the Black Birds in the garden.

This is a problem with all browsers and password manager extensions that they pop things up over websites.

Worst has to be lastpass deciding to save random search fields on sites that were prepopulated with suggestions when it saves the password and then putting it in on every page load.

Even though I am on the other side of the centre line from you, @MikeB4, I completely agree. We hardly get any current event reporting now. We get callow "reporters" editorialising everything with their "analysis" aka opinion. Reporters should be looking at all sides of news and events, asking questions on all sides, and presenting facts. Watching the TVNZ evening news makes me despair.

Don't forget the constant "live" crosses to breathless reporters telling you the same thing as the studio anchor while standing outside a location where someone was earlier that was related to the story in question. Bonus if its just their house.

The proliferation of disclosure statements, operating hours, contact details, ad’s etc etc on IVR’s instead of a ring tone. Actually after typing that, if I have to hear it, possibly it is best to have it during the ring downtime. Regardless they are all tedious anyway.
