I'm playing Warcraft and someone in chat asked what the command is to show your current target. Cue the chat filling up with <no target> and names of various targets as people responded by typing the command verbatim, which of course executed it.
Annoying anti-vaxxers on social media. Some clown was ranting about the new vaccine rules here being "1984"
In every reply I posted a quote from 1984. Of course the clown had no idea, he'd probably never read 1984.
It's done! I've finally finished my new home office setup, with a new (old) desk courtesy of my best friend moving overseas, matching filing cabinet and a new mesh chair.
After 24 years, I've also finally put my original Microsoft Natural Keyboard into storage. The new-ish Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard is close enough to the original to be a usable replacement. I don't see it lasting decades, but at least the size is similar buttons are mostly where they should be. Still hoping to see a re-release of the original one day.
Going mountain biking in the forest on mainly blue and black trails on Saturday for approx 3 hrs on my new full suspension bike (after a few years of riding hardtails), at the tender age of 52 and waking up on Sunday morning with no hip or knee pain.
So good!

Getting the price I wanted and not having to pay fees on it, on trademe. Super Quick and easy transaction. I wish they were all like this.
One of my favourite Youtube channels (Perifractic's Retro Recipes) started a new series a couple of months back called "The Retro Show" which has a number of segments about retro computing, including one called "Nostalgia Flakes" where he shares content that has been submitted by viewers enjoying their retro machines. I submitted one of my 6-year old daughter having a ball playing Pinball Dreams on my Amiga 500, and it was included in this segment. I watched it this morning over breakfast, and that same daughter watched with me, and her jaw dropped on the floor when she saw herself on the TV.
It made me smile how something so simple can still make kids so happy. They see themselves on TV all the time whenever we cast videos of them to the screen, but there's something different about being included in someone else's material. It's a bit like the feeling you used to get when your letter got read out on What Now back in the 80s.
Yikes. Googles ShakeAlert(R) system on Android works!
It took about two seconds after the house started shaking to tell me that there was an earthquake nearby, and to "expect shaking".
(Edit - on checking with GNS, it overestimated magnitude, and underestimated distance - but maybe useful if a big one lets rip further away).

It's like when you get a weather reporting telling you to expect rain when you are standing outside soaking wet!

Yep - but to be fair I edited my post above with more detail, it could be useful in some circumstances. Seems to be enabled by default in Android. I'll leave it switched on - that was fun - kind of.

What was that great line on the Simpsons? It's not a miracle, just good timing.

Or a Google alert telling you the make of the car that just ran into you.
For better earthquake info, try the Raspberry Shake network, they have the most sensors deployed.
Isn't the google app using every android phone with G sensors (most phones?) and the app enabled by default?
I think the reason for the app overestimating magnitude was that the local Chch quakes are shallow and the bedrock hard and brittle. Google also estimated location within GNS science ~2km margin of error.
They said 4.8, was a 3.4. I'm not sure if I can easily check PGA on the Geonet site these days, but I'd wager that it was much higher than what most people would expect for a M3.4 quake. There's good reason why a M6.3 quake destroyed most of a city.
