wasn't going to see this, as i'm not a big nolan fan, but got a free ticket
this is going to be as polarising as anything he's done.
its full of;
pretty pictures and sound
recycled plot
dodgy science
clunky dialogue
too long !!!
6/10
I'm currently reading (trying to read) "The Science Of Interstellar" by Kip Thorne who is the physicist who consulted on the film. His job was basically to take the directors ideas and find a way to explain it that is theoretically possible, even if it is EXTREMELY unlikely.
SPOILER (highlight to read)
*******BBCODE NOT WORKING SPOILER BELOW********
[color=#E9E8E2] E.g. for the time dilation on Miller's planet to be so extreme, the black hole would have to be spinning at 99.9999999999% of the theoretical maximum speed that known physics would allow.
However, it ill be interesting to see how he explains everything that happens after Cooper crosses the event horizon of the black hole. [/color]
******END SPOILER*******
Some of it is pretty hard to get your head around (for me anyway), but worth a read.

wasabi2k: Interstellar - spectacular. Very long and somewhat drawn out - but I think that built your attachment to the people so you actually gave a crap about them later on. Really enjoyed it. Mixed feelings about the ending. Wife enjoyed it. Also, the robots in this movie were absolutely amazing.
Guardians of the Galaxy - great watch. Watched it same day as Interstellar and was a refreshing change of pace. Funny, cheesy and heavy handed but still great. Benicio del Toro is great, Groot was awesome and the big bad guy was played by the guy from Halt and Catch Fire. Having a "Terran" bringing 90s culture into the sci fi setting is a stroke of genius.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
sxz: Deer Hunter. Pretty heavy stuff.

Lizard1977: The Iron Lady - 8/10
I've seen hardly any films lately (especially new films in theatres), but yesterday I had the opportunity to catch up on films I had been meaning to see for a while. So I chose to watch The Iron Lady.
In short, this is a terrific film. Meryl Streep does an outstanding job as Maggie Thatcher, but the supporting cast are equally brilliant - Jim Broadbent as her husband Denis Thatcher, Iain Glen (from GoT) as her father, Olivia Colman as her daughter Carol, and a bunch of other well-known names popped up - Anthony Head, Nicholas Farrell, John Sessions, Richard E Grant, Roger Allam, the list goes on. Story-wise it was very good, flicking from present to past and back again, but never feeling confused (largely due to excellent makeup and costuming to keep the chronology straight), and touching on most of the major points of her career.
If I had one criticism, it would be that too often those events were glossed over without showing how it happened. For instance, she mulls over running for the leadership of the party, and in the next scene, she is somehow miraculously elected to the leadership. I concede that she had a very full life, and to dwell on everything in detail would swell the running time to unmanageable proportions, but a bit more detail would have been interesting. The film makes up for it though by managing to incorporate a strong emotional core into the story, especially for a woman like Thatcher who was very polarising in her politics. She comes across quite sympathetic, where I imagine many people might only have ever seen a cold-hearted ruthless politician. The key to this is her relationship with her husband Denis, and the interplay between them is light but sincere.
All up, a great film, well worth watching.
