Vendor: here’s this really important thing you must do.
Me: implementing changes
Me: changes don’t work
Me: call useless support line
Vendor: 30 minutes of porkies, conflicting instructions and them telling me I must be entering something incorrectly and five minutes of please hold while I check something and an escalation to another gimp… oh, we haven’t implemented that yet

Insurance-appointed reinstatement company calls to offer up a progress report on the ongoing (2 years and counting) repairs post-flooding.

New tiles - grout is cracking in one area.

Asks what discussion I had with the tiler. I was vague. Tries to blame our choice of tiles and fabricates a piece of the story - tries to put some cost on us, which I refuse to be drawn into.

I then fill in the gaps with the full conversation I had with the tiler. Suddenly it's "I'll speak to the insurance company and get some advice then come back to you".

I'm over it. This is the sort of thing that Fair Go used to wield a mighty stick at. When they're gone, who is going to publicly name and shame and force resolutions on behalf of consumers?

I agree, pretty sad to see Fair Go get the chop. We learned a lot from them and they were a public service. Can’t understand why they would cut it.

The sharp increase in unqualified, uninterested, incompetent employees in the service sector, who were simply hired because they are "cheap" and can be charged expensively to the client. The client in turn charges the customer, i.e. "us".

Six nights until we fly back to New Zealand and both kids are sick, Miss 12 with a serious fever. I’m feeling a bit run down too.

Geektastic: The idea that breakfast shows in radio end at 0900.

I rarely eat breakfast, but when I do it’s certainly not at such an uncivilised early hour as that!

I’ve usually had my 2nd breakfast before 9am comes around.

How's the weather in Hobbiton today?

Sadly, I think the real Fair Go went some time ago. Installing a wannabe comedian as a presenter shows how low it has sunk. It's just 7 Sharp in a different studio.

Could be worse, could have been "first day of a 10 day beach holiday and all three kids are sick with fevers", see @Handle9's post.

Grout cracking usually implies movement and that suggests the backing.

A friend recently had some renovations done and one of the tilers asked to quote gave a long list of things the builder had done wrongly that could affect the end result. I thought he should have got the job but anyway at least the builder was called back to fix the mistakes.
