And everyone wins because throughput is maximised. If everyone would just leave a little bit of a gap and just drift back to let people change there wouldn't be all the compression waves bouncing back and forth in the flow which just slows the whole system down.

Unfortunately such benevolence is abused by those turkeys who are so important they need to get where they're going quicker than everyone else.

You know, those a**hats who will squeeze into that space in front of you even though there's absolutely no one behind you.

You also see the opposite - in rush hour on the Auckland motorway system, you'll get people that just brake and constantly look across to the other lane - meanwhile they are holding up the traffic behind them, as they are concentrating only on the task at hand - which is looking for a gap.
Believe it or not, dear driver, if you don't also indicate whilst looking for said gap, it'll likely never appear.

If I see one of these people and they don't indiocate, I don't make a space. The moment I see an indicator - I try to accommodate them as every good driver should (unless it's the three hundredth car in a row, at which point it becomes Death Race 2000).

Then there are the ones that turn on the indicator so you drop back to let them in, plenty of space to move over but they don't, then turn the indicator off so you move up, then they repeat the process. Not sure if they want 2 bus lengths left before they will move or are just indecisive, or think that the blindspot warning light is more of a car will fit light. 3rd time no gap for you.

I read someone's "suggestion" a few months back: "if you don't indicate, the steering wheel won't turn".

It wouldn't work for emergencies and other situations, but that's the sentiment.

That is something that annoyed me the other day, left lane cars all pulled over to allow ambulance to pass, AND then car behind pulls out and cuts everyone off, narrowly missing a car!

This. Happens so often it's ridiculous. They can't wait one car length for a gap in the traffic but have to go NOW...

Downsized our rubbish bin to a small one, as we are producing less refuse and recylcling and composting more.

Just received an invoice from the council for $40 for the new bin!

It's not like rubbish collection is free - we still have to pay over the odds for rubbish bin tags.

Council here charges me an extra $900+ a year for additional rubbish and recycling bin collections, since they've decided we're a multi-dwelling unit.* They haven't even had the decency to send the additional bins they are charging us for. I don't need them, but if I'm paying $900 extra each year I sure as hell want them.

* I have disputed this assessment and had it rejected. Considering my next move.

I love the ones on empty rural roads who appear behind you when you’re doing 99, overtakes you as if you’re doing 40 and then…. sits three car lengths in front of you for the next 20km because they just HAVE to be in front.

My Pharmacist dropping my medication around to me at home because getting down to pick it up is a hill too high right now and my wife is away on business.

Why does that annoy you?

The lack of attention to detail that seems to be endemic.

I ordered something from a store in Auckland that I’ve dealt with for years. The guy I deal with asked me if I wanted the item sent to the local courier agent in Rangiora for collection in order to avoid the two extra days that having it sent to my rural delivery adds.

I said yes please and reminded him that the parcel MUST go by New Zealand Couriers in order for that to work.

He sends me the tracking link an hour later. To New Zealand Post.

I contact him and it turns out his dispatch department completely ignored his specific written instructions to use NZ Couriers only.

The agent will not accept delivery from NZP so now he’s had to find a store in the city that will accept delivery, contact NZP and change the delivery address etc etc.

Jeebus.
